Only one point separates the top two Compound Women!
Antalya - 30 May 2007
Wednesday has put an end to the qualification rounds of Meteksan Archery World Cup Stage 3, that is currently being held in Antalya, Turkey. The archers enjoyed almost perfect weather conditions today with a maximum 30°C temperature and a sunny sky. However, they had to adapt their aiming to the movement of the sun throughout the whole day.
Here are the final results for Recurve Men and Compound Women qualifications:
Kim Yeon Chul (KOR)
Recurve Men
The Koreans have already dug a gap with their pursuers with three of them at the first three places of the individual Recurve Men qualifications. Im Ji Wan, Kim Yeon Chul and Im Dong Hyun have finished with 1358, 1356 and 1350 total scores, respectively. Their first pursuer is Great Britain’s Terry who scored 1339 points. Two other Europeans are placed behind these four archers, the Ukrainian Ivashko (1336) and the Italian Di Buo (1333). They are immediately followed by the Japanese Furukawa (7th with 1329 points) and the fourth Korean Lee Chang Hwan (8th/1328).
The cut has been pretty high in this category: it stands at 1281 points, which is higher than it was at the last World Championships. Moreover, 37 recurve men archers have reached 1300 points today in Antalya!
No real surprise in the team event with Korea leading with very high total score of 4034 points. They are the only team in this category who has got over 4000. Second, we find the Japanese who have come up close to this barrier with a 3955 total. Italy and Great Britain are ranked 3rd and 4th, for their part (3945 and 3943).
Amandine Bouillot (FRA)
Compound Women
Only one small point separates Van Natta (USA) and Bouillot (FRA) at the top 1st and 2nd places of the Compound Women qualifications. These two amazing archers got close to the 1400 barrier with 1393 and 1392 points, respectively. Just behind them stand Belgium’s Willems (1389) and Sweden’s Ericsson (1388). These four ladies have a comfortable advantage over the fifth seed Salvi of Italy (1382). Last year’s World Cup winner Goncharova (RUS) has recovered for a bad start (16th after the first distance at 70 metres) finishing 6th of the qualifications with a score of 1381. The surprising Croatian archer Buden stands 7th with 1374, while Ulsan World Cup Stage 1 winner Kazantseva (RUS) is just behind with 1373.
In the Compound team event Women's the Russians are firmly installed at the first place with 4119 points. The Americans are second with the same score (4081) as the Italians who lie in third. Only one point behind, one finds the French girls. Victory will certainly be played out between these four teams. The Venezuelans were happy with their performance today but they ended at a lower 4058.
Thursday will push the individual elimination rounds into the limelight all the way through the semi-finals. The Recurve Women and Compound Men will be competing in the morning (8:30-12:00 local time), whereas the Recurve Men and Compound Women will be on in the afternoon (13:30-17:00).
