World Cup Stage 3 – Quotes of the day 6
Antalya – 1 June 2007
We met with some of the individual finalists today:
Jahna Davis (USA) - Anna Kazantseva (RUS)
Kim Yeon Chul (KOR) –Recurve Men gold
It felt a bit strange because it is my first time in the World Cup. All the fans, the TV cameras are impressive. However, we are used to high level shooting in Korea and I am very glad I could win this event. I have a lot of dreams for the future. I hope to do well at the World Championships in Leipzig and next year at the Olympic Games.
Natalia Valeeva (ITA) –Recurve Women 4th place
I am happy with the result, but I still need more time to come back to my top level. I have been shooting again for only six months. I know what I must do to improve. Hopefully, I can do it before the World Championships in Leipzig.
Sébastien Brasseur (FRA) –Compound Men gold
I think the team final yesterday on this field helped me today. I was nervous at the beginning but as of the second end I told myself “let’s go!” I don’t think Braden (Gellenthien) has lost many matches at all this year. When he shot a couple of 9s, I knew that I could win this match. It was a good fight but I could carry over the good emotions until the end. It’s give me confidence for the future and the upcoming World Championships.
Braden Gellenthien (USA) –Compound Men silver
I was shooting good at the end but the arrows just drifted away in the 9 ring. A few millimetres here and there can make the difference between a 119 match and a 115 one. It was also a very tight match with both archers being neck to neck in the scoring and that makes is more difficult. We were tied with just two arrows to go.
Roberval Dos Santos (BRA) –Compound Men 4th place
My arrow was released too quickly during the shoot off. It happens in compound. That 8 was an open door for my opponent. It was an exciting match. We were fighting every arrow with only a 1-2 point gap in between us. I enjoyed it and I would like to thank all the fans for their support!
Jahna Davis (USA) –Compound Women silver
I had a bad start. I had a couple of nervous shots and the wind also carried away my arrows at the beginning. I had to adjust my sight to eight clicks up and five clicks on the right to reach the middle. The arch over the targets kills a bit the little flags for the wind above the targets. I focus on these flags and the target when it’s my turn to shoot. I was surprised but I make no excuse. Anna (Kazantseva) obviously adjusted quicker. With a three point deficit after six arrows, it was difficult to come back.
Gladys Willems (BEL) –Compound Women bronze
I shot a good match, but I was still stressed with my last arrow despite my big advantage. Antalya was not an easy place for me in previous years but this time I enjoyed it a lot. This is my second bronze at a World Cup event and now I will definitely go to Dover and try to qualify for the World Cup Final in Dubai!
Anastasia Anastasio (ITA) –Compound Women 4th place
It’s my first final at this level. It’s very impressive. I didn’t shoot well. I hope the experience will help me for next time.
