Double FITA in Moscenicka Draga, Croatia
Podgorica - 26 June 2007
On 16-17 of June a double FITA tournament was held in Moscenicka Draga, a small town near Rijeka on the Croatian coast. A traditional event in former times, this tournament has reappeared again after 12 years.
Several nations took part in this event, well organization by the Archery club “Rijeka” and the Croatian Archery Association: archers from Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Montenegro competed in Recurve, Compound and Barebow divisions in various age categories.
In Compound Men, local archer Villi took an early lead scoring 335 at 90m and was followed by fellow countrymen Gregec (330) and Klofutar (325). As a tricky sideways wind was already present at this distance, it became even more difficult to handle the 70m and 50m targets, but the wind finally stopped blowing when the archers shot at 30m. The round finished with Villi scoring 1365, followed by Gregec with 1354 and Klofutar with 1347 points.
On the second day, the archers had good conditions at long distances, but it was very windy at the short ones. Villi could maintain his lead, scoring 1366, and was this time followed up by Urosevic from Serbia (1359) and again by Gregec (1348). The final total scores were 2731 points for Villi who took the gold medal, 2702 for Gregec (silver) and 2696 for Urosevic (bronze).

In the Recurve divisions, Strukelj (CRO) won on both days. With a solid 2548 points total score, he secured the gold medal in the male category. Ladies from Slovenia, Verbic and Cekada, showed a very nice technique and style, scoring high scores of 2495 and 2394 points, enough for 1st and 2nd places in Recurve Women.
Very solid scores were obtained by several archers in age categories under 12 and under 14 years old. It is worth noting the 1332 score of local Suvak Andelo in Compound Men under 14.
No rain disturbed the archers and the seaside landscape provided a very pleasant atmosphere for the tournament. Organizers said goodbye to the archers during the medal ceremony, hoping for another encounter next year! Complete Results
