Leipzig
Recurve Men
Lee Chang Hwan (KOR) – gold medal We have been preparing ourselves for a long time. I am really happy that I have shot for gold with such great team-mates and that we broke the match World Record. We put it at 231 points. There is no Korean secret. It’s all about hard work and concentration. We also benefit from a tradition of winning and we are happy to carry on the flame. Jang Young Sool (KOR) - coach We are really happy! Every world title feels special, it’s not just one other title. I must admit we shoot great the whole competition. We are also very happy that we tied the team World Record in qualification and that we broke the match World Record today! However, the level of play is getting higher and higher. They are more Koreans coaches spread in the world and also more Korean-born players. This week, it was shown in the individual competitions. Tomorrow we have only one man and one woman shooting. I am still confident about great results. Team Great Britain – silver medal Unfortunately, it didn’t flow as well as yesterday against Sweden and the USA. We weren’t really nervous today, it was just the occasion. It always depends on some luck as well. Team Chinese Taipei – bronze medal We weren’t nervous because of our opponents, but rather about the competition itself. The weather conditions today were very good for us, almost like at home. Team Poland Even though we had a quite positive feeling, we shot only 8s when Chinese Taipei shot 10s several times. In addition to that, we were really nervous and stressed. But that’s normal in a competition. We’re also not used to such a big audience. Well, you also need a bit of luck. Yesterday the luck was ours when we won over Italy. Today it was for Chinese Taipei. Now we’re heading off for a one-week holiday. Recurve Women Park Sung-Hyun (KOR) – gold medal It’s wonderful to win a final! We had a lot of training and a lot of mental confidence. I have a lot of trust in my team-mate as well. My Olympic gold medal will forever be a special memory for me, but it feels great to win another title! Choi Eun Young (KOR) – gold medal I am very happy. As soon as the internal selection was done, we trained a lot together. It’s hard to win a gold medal and I think the team one is the most important. You must believe in your team and I would like to share the happiness with all the players. I was disappointed with my individual results but I stayed positive to help the team. Team Chinese Taipei silver medal It’s just a mission impossible to beat Korea! We just didn’t shoot as well as they did. Anyway, we’re very happy about our silver medal and want to celebrate with some German beer now. Team Great Britain – bronze medal During the last three arrows we knew that we’d win. However the Italians are brilliant archers as well. But we were in a very good condition and just made it after all. Team Italy Well, that’s the game. The rounds were pretty difficult and we just didn’t have enough luck. Anyway, we hoped until the very last arrow that the tide would turn in our favour, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. Compound Men Team USA – gold medal It’s absolutely unlike back home in the USA! We are thrilled to be asked for so many autographs. That’s such a great feeling and we’re not used to it. Actually, we weren’t nervous at all and we kept thinking positively throughout the competition. But the week was nerve-wracking so that it’s good to be through everything now. We’re looking forward to some ice-cream and then we have to get set for tomorrow’s matches. Reo Wilde (USA) – gold medal For me it has been a rough year in the World Cup so I am happy to win this one! You know well is really in compound men. All the individual 12-arrow matches go do down to the last arrow, to one or two points difference. With the team you have a bit more opportunities to make a difference, but still the gold medal match was really tight. Braden Gellenthien (USA) – gold medal This is just amazing! The venue is great and the way people react is amazing. I have never signed so many autographs! I never saw that in archery. The gold medal match was difficult. It came down to the last arrow. My shots are really good now and I am looking forward to tomorrow. I know that I beat Duo (ESP) at the final of the Indoor World Championships. However, it is not a revenge for me. I just concentrate on my own shots. Team Australia – silver medal It was hell rising. We did practice a lot during the last week and we’re very good as a team. Unfortunately, the wind differed now from that during our training. Even though we were extremely nervous, it was a fabulous tournament. There wasn’t a big gap between the USA and us at any point. We’re both great teams so that it turned out to be the right sort of match. Moreover, the audience was a fantastic support. Now we want to get some German beer to celebrate! Team Sweden – bronze medal In the semi-final, it didn’t go as well as we hoped it would. It was very difficult in the beginning. We “woke up” too late in the match. It’s a great pity. Lindblad (SWE) – bronze medal It’s good to continue a tradition of success in Sweden. My team-mates won the European Championships last year but I wasn’t shooting with them. It feels good to win bronze. In the semi-final, we had the second highest score but the USA was too strong. I know Morgan Lundin since 1995 when we have won that European Championships. The final field is great for shooting because there is no wind, but there are more nerves involved, too. Team Spain We expected to come so far to be honest. In the beginning we were quite nervous what made it a bit difficult. Now we’re pleased to be 4th, but also disappointed that we were bet by five points. Compound Women Team Belgium – gold medal We were so nervous, but now we’re really happy! The weather was alright and luckily not too windy. Our feelings were very positive thus we were shooting well and also better than during the eliminations yesterday. Every one of us showed a great performance. But France and Italy are usually tough opponents and we’re here as a team for the first time. It worked out great and we’re very proud after all. Team Italy – silver medal We were very good as a team. Throughout the competition our feelings were already quite optimistic. Maybe that’s why we shot so well. Now we’re greatly happy. Team USA – bronze medal The wind makes it different every time you shoot. You also need to have some luck as well. Sometimes it just works out and sometimes not. The 60 points helped us a lot. We did our best and it went alright for us. Now we want to celebrate our bronze medal with some ice-cream. Jamie Van Natta (USA) – bronze medal It’s always good to win a medal. It’s always good to see young players developing. However, my two team-mates may be young, but they have already a lot of experience. We have spent a great time in Germany. Congratulations to the organizers! Anja Zimmermann / Didier Miéville FITA Communication
