Leipzig “LIVE”: Salvi and Trillius, Champions of the World!

 
COMPOUND WOMEN   Semi-final: Salvi (ITA) – Markovic (NED)
Almost perfect end for the Italian, 2007 Indoor World Champion, with 29 points (10-9-10)! She was leading her Dutch opponent by one point at that moment (9-9-10/28). Shooting a 7 in the second end, Markovic offered a 2-point advantage to Salvi half-way (55-53). The lady from the Netherlands came back to one point, scoring a 29-point third end, while the Italian was doing 28 (83-82). There was a 3-point advantage for Salvi before the last arrow of the match (102-99). With a 10 she clinched the match by 112-108 to fight for gold later on.     Semi-final: Bouillot (FRA) – Loginova (RUS)
First match of the day with the French Bouillot facing Russian Loginova. The archers shoot 4 ends of three arrows each in alternate shooting. After the first end of this semi-final Loginova (9-10-9/28) was leading Bouillot (10-8-8/26) by two points. Going on with a perfect 30 end, the Russian lady doubled her advantage over her opponent (58-54). Shooting first as she was trailing, the French shot stronger 8-10-10 (82). The difference stayed the same after Loginova scored 9-10-9 (86). Bouillot could not recover with her last three arrows losing by 114-109. Loginova will shoot for gold and Bouillot for bronze.     Bronze Medal: Bouillot (FRA) – Markovic (NED)
Shooting for bronze it was Bouillot who took the lead after the first end: she shot 9-10-10 (29) and her opponent from the Netherlands 9-8-9 (26). Markovic went on with a perfect 30-point end to recover one point. Shooting 10-10-9, Bouillot was still ahead with an intermediate total of 58. The two archers went on with the same 9-10-10 series and the score was still in favour of the French archer by two points (87-85). With one arrow to go, Bouillot was still in the lead by the two points, but she shot a bad 8… As her opponent finished with a 10, the two archers were tied at the end of the match. Bouillot came round and shot a perfect arrow (10) in the shoot-off. Markovic scored a 9 and left the bronze medal to her opponent from France.     Gold Medal: Loginova (RUS) – Salvi (ITA)
The Russian opened with an 8-9-10 end, while the Italian shot 9-10-10. Salvi was leading by two points at that time (29-27). Miss Salvi continued with 9-10-9 and increased her lead to 57-54. Loginova scored 9-9-10 but was still trailing by two points (84-82) with only three arrows left. Salvi even increased her lead in the last end to clinch victory by 111-107. After the Indoor title in March this year, Salvi now becomes double World Champion with the Outdoor title!    
COMPOUND MEN   Semi-final: Gellenthien (USA) – Duo (ESP)
The 2007 World Indoor Champion Gellenthien was shooting first in this second semi-final. He started with a perfect end and 30 points! Duo shot well with 29, but was already one point behind after three arrows. The Spanish then scored 8-9-9 (55) and was trailing by three points half-way after his opponent released 9-10-9 (58). Duo recovered one point when he shot a perfect end third end (30). Gellenthien got 29 in that series to keep the lead by 87-85. Duo finished with 10-10-9 and a total of 114. His opponent from the USA clinched the match with a second perfect end and a 117 total. He will meet his neighbour Trillius (CAN) in the gold medal match.     Semi-final: Trillus (CAN) – Damsbo (DEN)
Damsbo started first on target no. 2. He opened the match with 9-10-9 (28). Trillus, shooting on target 1, scored 10-10-9 (29) for a 1-point lead. They both went on with a 10-9-9 series and the score was still to the Canadian’s advantage for one point (57-56). The lead was still for him (86-85) after he scored 10-10-9 and Damsbo 9-10-10. The Dane could unfortunately not recover this one point disadvantage and left victory to his opponent (114-113). Trillus will be shooting for gold, while Dambso will compete for bronze.     Bronze Medal: Damsbo (DEN) – Duo (ESP)
It was the Dane who started best with a 9-10-10 series and 29 points, while the Spanish archer opened with a triple 9 (27). They both followed with 10-10-9, which allowed Damsbo to keep his 2-point lead over Duo (58-56). The archer from Denmark then scored 9-9-10 and a total of 86. Triple 9 for Duo again, now trailing by three points with three arrows to go (83). Both opened the last end with a 10. The two archers then shot a 9 and were still separated by two points. Damsbo finished with a perfect shot (10) to win the bronze medal over Duo (9). Final score: 115-111.     Gold Medal: Trillus (CAN) – Gellenthien (USA)
Both archers were tied at 29 after the first end, as Gellenthien started with 10-10-9 and Trillius with 9-10-10. The two archers looked a bit stressed shooting for the world title... They both continued with 28 points in the second end for a tied score of 57 points. The Canadian and the American even increased their shooting level in the second part, shooting a perfect triple 10 series for the same total of 87 each! Gellenthien took the lead with one arrow to go, after he shot 10-10 and his opponent 9-10. He shot a 9, however, with his last arrow, and Trillius scoring a 10 could tie the match (116-116). Gellenthien was shooting first in the shoot-off and he scored a 9, leaving a possible victory to his opponent… The Canadian managed to hold his nerves and released a perfect last arrow to become the new World Champion in Compound Men!
