Nichols and Velez set new Pan Am Games Records Rio de Janeiro (BRA) – 25 July 2007 Jennifer Nichols (USA)    Jennifer Nichols (USA) and Luis Eduardo Velez (MEX) have set new Pan American Games Records in the FITA Round with scores of 1335 and 1331, respectively. They broke very old records established by Denise Parker (1328 in 1991) and Richard McKinney (1323 in 1987). These new scores were achieved in the qualification phase that concluded the afternoon of 25 July in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.   The long distances were shot in complete calm weather on Tuesday 24 July, but a bit of wind swirled on Wednesday morning causing some archers to lose a few points.   In the women's category Nichols was followed by Janeth Garcia (MEX) 1323, Leydis Brito (VEN) 1311, Ana Maria Rendon (COL) 1301, Karen Scavotto (USA) 1298, and Lindsay Pian (USA) 1296.   In the men’s category another 6 archers surpassed the 1300 mark: Crispin Duenas (CAN) 1328, Richard Johnson (USA) 1326, Brady Ellison (USA) 1319, Juan Carlos Stevens (CUB) 1309, Victor Wunderle (USA) 1305, and Juan Rene Serrano (MEX) 1305.      Luis Eduardo Velez (MEX)32 women and 32 men are competing in these Games after a qualification process that included the Pan American Championships held in Rio in November 2006 and the second qualifier in Santo Domingo earlier this year. Canada, USA, Mexico, El Salvador, Cuba, Venezuela and Brazil qualified both of their teams.       The Women’s Individual Eliminations and Finals will take place on Thursday 26 July, while the men will compete on Friday 25.
