31 July 2007 - World Cup launched with Spectacular Opening

World Cup launched with Spectacular Opening Dover – 31 July 2007  The Meteksan Archery World Cup tournament in Dover was launched in spectacular style on Tuesday at Dover Castle.   A colourful procession of flags, representing teams from all over the world, in the historic setting of the famous castle, made it an evening to remember as dignitaries from the town, and throughout Kent, joined over 300 local people in giving a big welcome to the cream of international archery. The ceremony was rounded off by a thrilling firework display.   Music on the night was provided by the Kent Police Band and the Pfifer Wind Orchestra, and local sea cadets carried the flags and led the teams.     "It was very local to the people of Dover, but also a very international occasion," said Lynne Evans, the chair of British archery's governing body the GNAS, who is hosting the World Cup tournament. "Dover did us all proud, they put on a great show in a marvellous setting, and made it a truly memorable occasion, for which we're extremely grateful."   Dover Organizing Committee
