Individual Eliminations - Recurve Men and Women Dover - 2 August 2007   Here is the report of the LIVE coverage of the recurve matches in Dover and the competition for the World Cup Final qualifications!  
Recurve Men 1st round: Custers (NED) - Yong (CHN)
The Chinese Yong was already trailing by 4 points after the first end of 6 arrows in his first round against Custer (52-56). The Dutch shooter clinched the match by 110-104 to go on to the next round. Yong is the first contender for the World Cup Final qualification to be eliminated.     1st round: Xue (CHN) - Heikkinen (FIN)
The two archers were tied after 6 arrows at 52 points each. However, the Chinese athlete accomplished an almost perfect second end with 59 out of a possible 60. He finished with a total of 111 points, while his opponent Heikkinen could not hold the pressure closing his match with a 10-point disadvantage (101).   2nd round: Serrano (MEX) – Dobrowolski (POL)
Starting with three 9s and three 10s the Pole had a 2-point lead after the first end (57-55). Serrano then shot almost perfectly with 10-10-X10-9-10-10 to finish with a good score of 114 points. Although shooting three more 10s and two 9s, Dobrowolski started the second end with an 8, which finally proved to be the cause of his defeat, as he lost by only 1 point (113-114). Another contender for Dubai was out of the race.     2nd round: Di Buo (ITA) - Ginzel (GER)
Shooting two 7s and a 6 in his first end, the Italian Di Buo trailed by 5 points at 48-53. His German opponent then shot two 6s in the second series of 6 arrows, losing his advantage and more... Ginzel finally handed victory to Di Buo on a 2-point difference (100-102). 1/8 round: Frangilli (ITA) - Tsyrempilov (RUS)
The two archers were tied at 53 after the first 6 arrows. Frangilli started the second end with a 6 and could not do better than 9s and 8s with his last five arrows. He finished with 101 points. Tsyrempilov shot an excellent second end with 10-X10-10-9-10-9 and clinched victory with a 10-point advantage (111).   1/8 round: Serrano (MEX) - Abramov (RUS)
A very tight duel between the Mexican and the Russian! They were tied at 50 points each after the first 6 arrows. They both shot a 7 in the second end, but Serrano managed one more 10 than his opponent. He gained victory by 103-102 over Abramov. Serrano was still in, Abramov was out!     1/4 final: Di Buo (ITA) - Tsyrempilov (RUS)
Tsyrempilov took an early lead and was ahead by 2 points at the half-way mark of the match (56-54). He increased his advantage to 3 points with only three arrows to go (85-82). Di Buo could not recover and was easily defeated by 105-114. The Russian will shoot once more in World Cup semi-finals on Sunday morning. Di Buo, second of the World Cup 2006, will not go to Dubai.   1/4 final: Serrano (MEX) - Nespoli (ITA)
The two archers were tied after six arrows: 57-57. Serrano then scored X10-9-9 and took a 2-point advantage over Nespoli who shot 9-9-8 (85-83). The Mexican increased his advantage in the last three arrows, earning the right to shoot the semis on Sunday. Final score between Serrano and Nespoli: 114-109. Serrano also qualified for the World Cup Final in Dubai, while Nespoli will have to watch the performance of Wills (GBR), Sunday.   Recurve Women 1st round: Hitzler (GER) - Haidn Tschalova (GER)
Close match between the two German team-mates: Hitzler was leading by 1 point after the first end of 6 arrows (54-53). She then shot 8-8-8-8-9-9 for a total of 104. Haidn Tschalova shot a couple of 7s (7-10-7-7-9-9), which prevented her from recovering. Final score: 104-102 for Hitzler.     1st round: Oliver (GBR) – Qian (CHN)
The local archer trailed by 4 points after the first end (48-52). Shooting a very low end with 9-7-5-7-7-3, Oliver could not do better than a poor 86 total and handed victory to her opponent from China who scored 105 points. Second of the World Cup in 2006, Qian has having a difficult season but won that match.   2nd round: Rieznikova (UKR) – Erdyniyeva (RUS)
Great upset for 2007 Antalya World Cup winner Erdyniyeva today with an early defeat in the 2nd round! Though the Russian was leading by 1 point after the first end (52-51), her opponent from Ukraine shot four 10s out of her last six arrows. Rieznikova finished with 107 points, while Erdyniyeva scored a total of 102. 2nd round: Williamson (GBR) - Zhao (CHN)
The local archer Williamson started slowly with 53 out a possible 60 in the first end. The Chinese opened the match almost perfectly, scoring four 10s and two 9s to get to 58 points. The 5-point difference between the two ladies eventually remained and it was Zhao taking victory by 109-105.     1/8 round: Zhang (CHN) - Bebeshko (UKR)
Another close start of match in this round between China's Zhang and Ukraine's Bebeshko! Their score was equal after the first 6-arrow series, both on 53 points at that point. Zhang was more consistent in the second part of the match: she shot 8-9-9-8-9-7 (52), while her opponent started with a poor 6 and 4, going on with 9-9-7-9 (44). Zhang finally won easily by 105-97.   1/4 final: Cwienczek (POL) - Unruh (GER)
A 3-point lead for the Polish lady at half-way mark: 58-55. Although Unruh was evenly matched with her opponent in the second part of the match (both with 52), her disadvantage was too large to recover. She lost 110-107 to Cwienczek. The Pole kept also her chances to go to the World Cup Final in Dubai. 1/4 final: Banerjee (IND) - Tonetta (ITA)
The Indian was ahead after 6 arrows (55-53) and after 9 arrows (83-81). However, her opponent from Italy came from behind to tie up the score at the end of the match on the score of 109 each. A tie break was needed to decide the winner! With the first shoot-off arrow the two ladies both scored a perfect X10. The second additional arrow was decisive when Tonetta scored a poor 6, leaving Banerjee the possibility to win and keep all hopes alive of qualifying for the World Cup Final in November. The Indian did not miss this chance and shot a 9 to advance to the semi-finals.   1/4 final: Mospinek (POL) - Swuro (IND)
Mospinek had a 1-point advantage at the half-way mark over Swuro (53-52). She then lost it in the third end of three arrows scoring 9-7-10 (26), while her Indian opponent shot 10-9-8 (27). The intermediary score was 79-79. However, the Pole recovered with the last three arrows adding 29 points to finish with a total of 108. Swuro finished with a 26-series and lost with 105 points.     1/4 final: Rieznikova (UKR) - Zhang (CHN)
The 2006 World Cup winner - China's Zhang - proved too strong for the Ukrainian Rieznikova. The Chinese was already in the lead by 3 points at the half-way mark (55-52). She then kept increasing her advantage (84-79) and finished with 112-105. A comfortable victory for Zhang, who keeps all hopes alive of going to Dubai in November for the World Cup Final.
