Recurve Women Team
Press conference highlights
PARK Sung-Hyun (Korea) - Archer
On the Chinese team:
It’s a pity that the Chinese team didn’t enter the final stage. Nevertheless the Chinese spectators were very kind and cheered for the Koreans. I hope the Chinese team will enter the final stage at the 2008 Olympics. If China had entered the finals today, they would have been a threat to us.
PARK Sung Hyun, LEE Tuk Yound and CHOI Eun Young (KOR)
On whether she would give advice to the Chinese team for betterment in their archery:
The Chinese team did not perform well today, and I suspect maybe there’s a problem with their fitness. The Chinese team is very strong, and both China and Korea entered the finals at the 2004 Olympics. But as a contestant I’m not in the best position to give advice to them.
NICHOLS Jennifer (USA) - Archer
On performance:
We are very satisfied with our performance today. We prepared well for it. We thank our coach for his consistent help. We look forward to returning here next year.
On the spectators:
I’m pleased to see so many spectators here when the weather is so warm. They enjoyed watching the games. It was very good practice for the Olympic games next year. The people here are very kind and very hospitable to all the teams.
LORIG Khatuna (USA) - Archer
On the team of Georgia (their opponents in the bronze medal match):
I think Georgia did very well, but we did better. All the teams are doing much better and getting higher scores. So for next year I expect we will be much stronger and much more confident.
ERDYNIYEVA Natalya (RUS) - Archer
On the impression of this tournament:
I would like to thank the people here. The meals are very good, and people are very hospitable.

On their purpose of this tournament:
“We came here both to test the field and win the gold medal.”
ERDYNIYEVA Natalya (RUS)

"As usual, the Korean team is very good. We just shoot, but they have still won. We are very happy to win the silver medal."
On the reasons for their great performance in this tournament:
“Because we have really trained a lot.”
On prediction of 2008 Games

On the goal in the women’s individual competition:
“I don’t know. I will see on that day. ”
Comments from Karen SCAVOTTO (USA) after USA’s victory over Georgia in the Women's Team Bronze Medal Match on Tuesday.
SCAVOTTO Karen (USA) - Archer
On the conversation after Asmat DIASAMIDZE (GEO) shot 5 points that gave the victory to USA:
“We didn’t know what would happen, so we just waited to see. But we’re very happy, because Georgia is a great team and everyone in our team is good friends.”
On their shooting order:
“We believe it is the strongest order for us. Khatuna LORIG (USA) always has quick and good shots so that we can have a strong enter. Jennifer NICHOLS (USA) is also very excellent, and when it came to the last shot, we believed she could handle it.”
SCAVOTTO Karen and LORIG Khatuna (USA)
On how they can perform so consistently all the time:
“We practice all the time. And when we lag behind, we keep telling each other and ourselves that we’re OK.”
Comments from ESEBUA Kristine from Georgia after United States’ victory over Georgia in the Women's Team Bronze Medal match on Tuesday.
ESEBUA Kristine (GEO) - Archer
On the shooting a 6-point arrow:
"I am sorry I made that mistake in this decisive match for the bronze medal though I performed stably from yesterday in the Women’s Ranking Round and today in the Women’s Team Elimination matches shooting a couple of X-rings(inner 10 points). Affected a little bit but recovered from that handicap soon after, I shot the following 9 point arrow but it is really a great pity to miss the bronze medal. How I wish we could have got one more point to go on into the shoot-off to win the chance back!"
On the Women’s Individual competition in the coming days:
"Today I made this 6-point mistake but I am confident that I will try my utmost to perform well in the approaching women’s individual matches."
Comments from Jennifer NICHOLS (USA) after Russia’s victory over USA in the Women's Team semi-final on Tuesday.
NICHOLS Jennifer (USA) - Archer
On her feeling when the match was very tight:
“It was really an exciting match. We enjoyed that. They (the Russian team) are a very good team.”
On whether she felt nervous when the Russian team shot four 10 points in the third end:
“I was focusing on my own shooting. (But) they shoot really well.”
On the chemistry among her and her team-mates:
“We chatted happily to each other in the break. There is a strong chemistry among us. As a team, we love each other and work hard together. We are proud of our team.”
Comments from Elena TONETTA (ITA) after Georgia’s victory over Italy in the Women's Team Quarterfinal on Tuesday.
TONETTA Elena (ITA) - Archer
On the reason of not performing well in the 1st end:
"The wind made us lose many points. When we shot, there was wind, but when the other team shot, there was no wind."
The Georgian Team
On the match:
"We tried to shoot the middle, but the arrows went around."
"We never felt nervous here, because we had won our qualifications at the World Championships last months ago. It is only a test event, and we will be ready for the Olympics. "
Comments from Korean coach JA Chung Koo after Korea’s victory over Ukraine in the Women's Team Quarterfinal on Tuesday.
JA Chung Koo (KOR) - Coach
On performance:
“The result turned out to be the same with the one in the morning against Kazakhstan. But this game was tougher for the archers."
On the weather:
“The weather is certainly very hot, so it affected the final result.”
On the performance of the Ukraine team:
“They (Ukraine) did very well in the first three shots, so we felt nervous at first.”
Comments from Justyna MOSPINEK (POL) after Russia’s victory over Poland in the Women's Team Quarterfinal on Tuesday.
MOSPINEK Justyna (POL) - Archer
On the reasons of losing the match
“It’s windy this afternoon and very hot. From the first end we lost, we felt bad and I got a bit nervous in the later rounds.”
On the change of arrangement in this match:
“In the match with Malaysia I shot four times in each round, and every athlete shot twice in the match with Russia. Our coach changed in this way because we have to shoot against four teams within six hours and therefore each athlete must practice and the whole team must keep a balance.”
On the Russian women’s team:

On prediction of Women’s Individual Competition:
“I have one day to have a rest before that, and I will make use of it. I will try to keep my best situation.”
On the yellow card for team-mate Iwona MARCINKIEWICZ (her team-mate):

Comments from LIAN Guo Fu, the Chinese Women’s Team coach.
LIAN Guo Fu (CHN) - Coach
On Chinese Women’s Team eliminated at the first round:
"It is a pity we got eliminated at the first round though the team shot six 10 points. The archers tried their best but some of the shooting was not dealt with very well due to their nervousness in fear of losing their advantage gained at the beginning. Though we lost the chance to qualify for the next round as a team, we will learn our lessons and try to exert our best performance in the Women’s Individual Elimination in which three of the archers (GUO Dan, ZHUANG Juan Juan, and HE Ying) will all participate in the coming days.”
