4 September 2007 - “Giving is Winning” 2007/2008 Campaign

“Giving is Winning” 2007/2008 Campaign Lausanne – 4 September 2007  In July, the IOC and the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) have launched a new “Giving is Winning” campaign. The objective is to invite IFs, NOCs, as well as other members and supporters of the Olympic Movement to donate clothes, which will then be distributed in refugee camps around the world. The collection will also enable to organise sports and recreational activities in these camps, particularly for young people.   At the Athens Games, great quantities of clothes were collected (six containers), with athletes, officials, and sponsors joining in enthusiastically. The success of the first initiative encourages us to aim even higher and extend the action with a one-year campaign, targeting ten containers.   The second Giving is Winning campaign concerns us all, members of the Olympic Family. Join in by donating (clean) sports and casual clothes. For further information, please contact Ms Ornella Lardaruccio, IOC Department of International Cooperation and Development, 4th floor, A Building (email: givingiswinning@olympic.org, tel: +41 (0)21 621 64 21). "Giving is Winning" poster (106 KB) As the months pass, the IOC will inform of the latest campaign news.   The success of this project depends on all of us. Your gesture will contribute to making a difference for thousands of refugees. We thank you in advance for your contribution.   T. A.
