4 September 2007 - Victor Sydoruk Celebrates his 70th Birthday!

Victor Sydoruk Celebrates his 70th Birthday! Lausanne – 4 September 2007   Victor Sydoruk today celebrates his 70th birthday, still fully involved in our sport. Congratulations and Happy Birthday from FITA and the Archery Family!   Tribute by Juan Carlos Holgado   When thinking about Victor… I can see “work, work and more work”. But also passion, competition, smartness, vision, ambition, and strength! Victor is a great man… a great worker… and I always admired him for all that.   For a Spanish guy like me, motivated to practice Archery at top level since I was very young, Victor was just the right person to guide, inspire and teach me how to grow up in Archery. He showed me what to do, and what not to do! Each moment with him was an excellent learning experience. Maybe the methods were not always the most enjoyable ones, but always very effective. So, as an archer, as a friend, as an Archery fan, I thank you Victor for your tremendous work done in Archery. “Sparsiva!”   But Victor was… is more than a great coach. He was a top level archer for several years, winning probably the windiest World Championships ever in 1973 in Grenoble, France. He was a wrestler in the old times of the URSS, and moved to Archery to aim higher goals in sport. And indeed he did, being very successful as an archer, as a coach and as the President of his Federation.   Victor the FIGHTER! This is how I have him in my mind. He fights hard to get the best for his archers…. for his goals… for Archery… for his team… for his family… for his friends. I do not know how he does, but his strength and motivation to keep improving and doing better in our sport is just the same as when I met him in 1989. High… very high! For me he has never been 60 nor 70 years old… but always 35 with some “scars” on his body!   Viktor with the Spanish team, Barcelona 1992 Viktor in Kollazh 2002    Victor, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to wish you a very Happy Birthday and all the best for you, your Archery soul and your great heart for the coming years. May the “force” be even stronger with you!   See you on the Archery field… as usual!   Your friend and archer, Juan Carlos Holgado
