25 September 2007 - Success for the Archery Seminar in Mexico

Success for the Archery Seminar in Mexico Tijuana B.C. Mexico – 25 September 2007    Coaches created a mix of both new and experienced participants.    The 3rd Annual Seminar-Training Camp at the Tijuana Training Center in the state of Baja California, Mexico, was a great success. The 109 participants from several states in Mexico took part in various activities. The event spanned over 4 days from 23 to 26 August and received very positive feedback from the participants.      The Seminar-Training Camp was split in two parts: one was an intense Training Camp for young archers from Mexico; the other part was a Coaching Seminar which featured distinguished figures from the sport of archery at a worldwide level. The event could count on the participation of world class instructors such as Lloyd Brown, a level 5 coach with the USA National Archery Association (N.A.A.) and national coach for the United States Olympic team in Atlanta 1996.   Lloyd Brown demonstrated different techniques that are used around the world and how every country has developed their own methods as well as the pros and cons of these methods. He also highlighted and demonstrated the simplest method to start off new archers with the proper technique with the goal of having them participate in international events.    Another lecturer was the distinguished international coach Mark Penaz who was named Coach of the Year in 2005 by the Archery Coach Development Committee for his achievements in several World Championships where he obtained a great number of medals. Mark Penaz is a specialist in compound bows and his topics were of much interest for the 36 coaches attending the seminar.      Participants demonstrating training routines created by Mr Penaz. The seminar also had the privilege to present Master Coach M.J. Rogers from the USA National Field Archery Association (N.F.A.A.). Mr Rogers is not only an accomplished professional in the sport of archery, but he is also Events Director for the N.F.A.A. coordinating events such as the World Archery Festival hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada and was previously acting as coordinator at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.   Yet another lecturer in the Coaches Seminar was the Pro Archery for Hoyt, June Montenegro who spoke of the ways to consistently make dependable string for bows as well as “tricks” to get the most performance out of the strings for up to 3 years even with intensive use. Along with demonstrating practical methods to making “professional” strings Mr Montenegro handed out string material for the trainers to practice and experiment with new methods of string making.   Amongst the speakers of the Seminar-Training Camp was Gerardo Cardenas Galvan who spoke about the importance of choosing the correct equipment and the basic steps of how to choose the right bow. The young participants received his advices with much enthusiasm.                                       The seminars also included Naty Jaime as a speaker on the topic of Bow Mechanics and choosing arrows. During this seminar a simple and practical approach was taken to explain all components and functions of a recurve and compound bow. This part of the course went into more details about the specific functions and the proper way to adjust each piece of a recurve and compound bow and the negative effects of a baldy tuned bow.    Participants of the Seminar-Training Camp     The training camp had also scheduled many activities that featured group dynamics, some where everyone both coaches and archers participated and others that were geared towards the archers in order to analyze their role in a team. Facilitating these activities was Josahan Jaime-Santacruz, who did an exceptional job managing a large group of both coaches and young archers. The purpose of these activities was for all participants to create confidence and camaraderie, learn the importance of leadership, face challenges as a group and analyze the different dynamics that occur in a team in order to apply them to their experiences during competition.   Overall this training camp offered new perspectives and tools to both novice and seasoned veterans of archery. It encompassed a wide variety of topics related to the sport, from the most detailed and technical to the broad abstract concepts. It is the hope of the Baja California State Archery Association to continue these events and be even more successful in the future.   Naty Jaime Robin Hood Archery 45 116 Commerce St. Suite 2 Indio, California, 92201, USA Phone: +1 (760) 347 88 28 Fax: +1 (760) 342 11 75 Email: robinhodarchery@aol.com
