The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Uganda Archery Federation have launched a campaign to promote Archery around Uganda. Last week, the sport was introduced in western Uganda in primary and secondary schools and institutions of higher learning.
Despite being one of those sports representing the country at international events such as the All Africa Games and the Olympic Games, Archery has had to struggle to gain prominence in Uganda. Launching the sport at Mbarara University, the Dean of Students Mr Emmanuel Kyagaba said: “Archery is not a new sport in Uganda, but the new generation needs to be introduced to these skills.”
IOC Expert Archery Coach Mr Daryn Radcliffe and Secretary General of Uganda Archery Federation Mr Mustafa Mwesigye have moved around the country to launch the sport in other regions together with National Coach and Athlete Ms Margaret Tumusiime.
