No major changes in the world ranking after Bangkok and Merida
La Habana – 18 March 2008
The world ranking lists published on 13 March 2008 do not show significant changes after the World Ranking Events held in Bangkok and Merida. Park Sung Hyun (KOR) photo, Baljinima Tsyrempilov (RUS), Anna Kazantseva (RUS) and Braden Gellenthien (USA) remain in the first positions just two weeks before the first World Cup Event to be held in Santo Domingo.
Sydney’s Olympic Champion Yun Mi Jin’s victory in Bangkok gave the Korean enough points to rank in the top 20 now, but not to move to the top ten. Mexico’s Aida Roman won in Merida, but the ranking factor for this event was quite low, so she remained with the same total ranking score as before in Women Recurve.
An unknown Korean won the Men Recurve division in Bangkok, followed by Malaysia’s best archer today: Cheng Chu Sian, who moved from 11th to 10th position in the world ranking. Mexico’s Velez and Serrano were first and second in Merida, but did not win extra points for their ranking totals. Serrano is still 8th.
No changes occurred in the top ten in Women Compound, in spite of the victories achieved by Jennifer Chan (PHI) and Linda Ochoa (MEX) in Bangkok and Merida, respectively.
Jorge Jimenez (ESA) won the Grand Prix in Merida, but the 32 points he attained there were not enough for him to surpass Braden Gellenthien (USA) in the Men Compound division, in which Ye Min Swe (MYA) took the gold medal in Thailand.
Most of the top archers in the world ranking lists will contend in Santo Domingo in two weeks. This may bring about some changes in the top places in the world ranking to be published just after the first World Cup Stage in the Dominican Republic.
