PRESS RELEASE
Lausanne (SUI) – 10 June 2008
Lausanne will host the Archery World Cup Final 2008
The International Archery Federation (FITA) is pleased to announce that this year’s World Cup Final will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Saturday 27 September 2008. The venue for this event will be the Montbenon Casino’s gardens in the centre of the Olympic Capital.
The top 4 archers in the world in each category (Recurve Men, Recurve Women, Compound Men and Compound Women) will qualify through four World Cup stages. The first three have already taken place in the Dominican Republic and Croatia in April and in Turkey at the end of May. The last stage of the year will be held in France in the last week of June. At the World Cup Final in Lausanne, the athletes will compete in semi-finals and then shoot bronze and gold medal matches.
Built in 1908, the Montbenon Casino enjoys a unique situation in Lausanne. A walking distance to the city centre and surrounded by beautiful gardens it offers an unrestricted view over the Geneva Lake and the mountains. The building was renovated in 1981 and has become a place for social and cultural entertainment. Contrary to what its name implies, the Casino has never housed games rooms. Sketch of the Venue (2 MB) Mr Patrice Iseli—Head of the city of Lausanne’s Sports Department—said he was delighted to host another world class event in town. Lausanne shows once more its status as the Olympic Capital and is happy that one of the Federations, located at the Maison du Sport International in Lausanne, has the chance to showcase its sport at home. Lausanne looks forward to welcoming all the archery fans and the worldwide supporters.
At the moment two athletes have already won their precious ticket for the World Cup Final: World Champion Natalia Valeeva (ITA) and Yun Ok Hee (KOR), who recently broke the World Record for a match in the Recurve Women category. For the rest everything is still possible and will be decided at fourth and last World Cup stage in Boe, France, from 23 to 28 June.
