Creation of a club in the state of Paraiba in North East Brazil
Lausanne – 24 June 2008
Archery Club of Bananeiras
Love can get you anywhere in the world… Love led Christian Barbé—a French citizen from Divonne les Bains—to Brazil after he married a Brazilian called Myrta. An archery fanatic, he immediately had the idea of creating a club in the city of Bananeiras in the state of Paraiba.
However, Brazil is a vast country and the region of Bananeiras does not have any equipment distributor. Moreover, custom taxes are extremely expensive. Christian Barbé, therefore, contacted two archery clubs in France—one in Divonne les Bains and the second in Bonneville—so that he could receive some equipment to start off the new club. Despite the difficulties and thanks to the generosity of those two clubs and to the perseverance of Christian some equipment could be dispatched to Bananeiras. An official ceremony of donation was organized to remit the equipment to the mayor of Bananeiras.

Knowing the difficulties experienced by Christian Barbé, FITA and the National Olympic Committee of Brazil have agreed to find a solution for all matters related to equipment shipping. FITA would like to thank Christian for his great initiative and dedication to the development of archery.
