The Elimination Matches went on in the afternoon. In Recurve Men, Viktor Ruban (UKR) made the show and qualified for the gold match on Saturday and the World Cup Final in Lausanne. In Compound Women, Nichola Simpson (GBR) will meet Luzmary Guedez (VEN) on Saturday night.

Recurve Men
1st round: AUBERT Thomas (FRA) - KIM Ha-Neul (AUS)
Kim "Sky" started his match really well with a total of 59 points and led Aubert by 6. Although the Frenchman had good finish (9-9-9-X10-10-10), he could not catch the Australian. Kim finished with 9-8-X10-9-10-9 and won the match 114-110.
1st round: IVASHKO Markyan (UKR) - WUNDERLE Victor (USA)
The first end was close. The Urkainian had 52 (10-9-9-8-8-8) and the American 51 (10-9-9-8-8-7). However Wunderle lost in the second end. He only managed 8-9-9-7-7-9 for 100 pts, while Ivashko had a superb finish, 10-10-9-X10-9-9 for 109 pts!
2nd round: Van Alten (NED) - SAIDIYEV Oidek (KAZ)
Van Alten fought hard in this match. He started with 10-10-7-10-8-9 to lead 54-53 after the 1st end. The second end has even a higher level. Saidiyev had X10-9-9-9-9-10 but Van Alten shot X10-9-10-X10-9-8 to maintain a 1-point victory, 110-109.
2nd round: WAN AB AZIZ W.M. K. (MAS) - TSYREMPILOV Baljinima (RUS)
The Russian, winner of the World Cup Final last year, was fighting to keep his crown. He started with 9-8-9-9-9-10 but the Malaysian had 9-10-8-9-9-10 to lead 55-54. Tsyrempilov had then 8-8-9-9-X10-X10 but his opponent had 9-9-9-8-9 and a liner 10 that gave him the victory, 109-108.
3rd round: IM Dong Hyun (KOR) - KIM Ha-Neul (AUS)
The Australian-born Korean, kept surfing on his success so far today. He started with 59 pts to have a 4-point lead. Im tried to come back with 10-9-9-9-10-10. However Kim had X10-9-10-9-9-9 to defeat the World Champion, 115-112.
3rd round: VALLADONT Jean-Charles (FRA) - TALUKDAR Jayanta (IND)
An exciting match! Both archers started with 54 points. Then the Frenchman struggled a bit with 9-9-7 before finishing with 10-8-10 for 107 pts. The Indian had X-9-10-9-8-7 to tie at 107 pts! In the shoot-off, Valladont had a 9 but Talukdar managed a 10 to keep his World Cup Final hopes alive!
Quarter-final: PARK Kyung-Mo (KOR) - KIM Ha-Neul (AUS)
This time Kim had a bad start, 10-8-6, while Park was almost perfect, 9-10-10. It was then nearly impossible to overcome that 5-point deficit for Kim. The scored evolved: 57-53, 85-81 and Park won 112-108.
Quarter-final: Xue Hai Feng (CHN) - TALUKDAR Jayanta (IND)
World Cup Finallist in 2006, Talukdar started with 29 pts. However he had a X10-9 and a 6 in the second end that caused his defeat. He was then trailing 54-55. Xue stayed solid for the rest of the match scoring 9-8-10 and 9-10-10 to win 111-108. Talukdar has reached the quarter-final three times this season but never advance further. Will it be enough to return to the World Cup Final this year ?
Quarter-final: RUBAN Viktor (UKR) - MORIYA Ryuichi (JPN)
The Ukrainian needed another win to keep his hopes for the World Cup Final alive. He put the pressure on at beginning with 27 and 29 pts for a total of 56. Moriya could not do better than 26 and 25. Then Ruban did not let anything go to win 112-108. He keeps his chances alive.
Semi-final: RUBAN Viktor (UKR) - PARK Kyung-Mo (KOR)
Ruban needed to win this match to go to the World Cup Final in Lausanne, while Park was already qualified. The first end was tied at 27 but then Ruban took the lead, 56-53. However, Park struck back with 9-X10-10, while Ruban had 8-10-9. Ruban still led 83-82. Park kept going with 9-X10-X10 and Ruban 9-9-X10. The match was tied at 111-111. The two first shoot-off arrows were 9s. We needed a third arrow, closest to the center. The wind rose. Park only shot a 7. Ruban didn't shake and scored an X10! Ruban will shoot for gold in Boe on Saturday night and will to go the Final in Lausanne in September!
Semi-final: XUE Hai Feng (CHN) - LI Wenquan (CHN)
After the women this morning, the Chinese showed again that they are peaking just in time for the Olypmics. Xue had the better start, leading 28-27 after three arrows. Then Li came back with X10-X10-9 and led 56-54. He then led 83-82. He finished strongly with 9-10-X10 to clinch the match 112-109.
Compound Women
2nd round: VAN NATTA Jamie (USA) - LOGINOVA Albina (RUS)
The favourite American did not have an easy task, facing the silver medallist of the last World Championships. Loginova actually led after six arrows, 57-55. However, Van Natta came back with 9-X10-9-10-X10-10 while Loginova shot 9-10-9-10-9-9. The match was tied at 113 pts! In the shoot-off, Loginova shot on 9. Van Natta did not miss the chance scoring an X10 to advance!
2nd round: LAURILA Anne (FIN) - SIMPSON Nichola (GBR)
Laurila was consistent: 9-9-9-10-10-9 and 9-X10-9-X10-10-8 for 112 pts. Simpson was just slightly better: 9-10-9-9-X10-10 and 10-9-X10-10-9-10 for 115 pts!
Quarter-final: SIMPSON Nichola (GBR) - GONCHAROVA Sofia (RUS)
Simpson took an early lead with 9-X10-10 compared to 9-9-9 for Goncharova. Then, the Brit did not let go. She led 56-55, 84-82 and concluded 112-110. Simpson is on her way to the World Cup Final, while the two times finalist Goncharova will not qualify this time.
Quarter-final: SHABANI Akram (IRI) – KAZANTSEVA Anna (RUS)
Kazantseva needs a win in Boe to go to the World Cup Final. She was very solid in her quarter-final leading 29-25, 58-54, 86-82 and concluded with a victory of 115-111!
Semi-final: VAN NATTA Jamie (USA) – SIMPSON Nichola (GBR)
The match was close at the half, 57-56 for Simpson. She increased her lead in the third end scoring 9-10-10 while Van Natta shot 9-8-9. Simpson led 86-82 and concluded 113-111. We will see both women at the Lausanne World Cup Final.
Semi-final: GUEDEZ Luzmary (VEN) – KAZANTSEVA Anna (RUS)
The hopes of Kazantseva pretty much stopped with a score 9-8-9 in the first end. Guedez shot a perfect 10-10-10 and never let go. She led 58-53, 87-82 to clinch the match 115-111. Kazantseva will miss the World Cup Final this time.
