Did you know? ZHANG is the first to beat three Koreans in a row…
Lausanne – 26 August 2008
The new Olympic champion ZHANG Juan Juan (CHN) is the first archer to beat three Koreans in a row in the same event. Before her, Sebastien FLUTE (FRA) had beaten three Koreans in 1992 to become men’s individual Olympic champion in Barcelona, but not in successive matches.
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, ZHANG first defeated JOO Hyun-Jung (KOR) 106-101 in the quarterfinal match of the women’s individual event. She faced YUN Ok-Hee (KOR) in her semi-final and won 115-109. To win the gold medal, the Chinese lady finally beat the defending Olympic champion PARK Sung-Hyun (KOR) 110-109.
