The Field World Championships are underway!

To start the ceremony, the archers marched in led by a member of the Royal Welsh Guards and the Guards’ official mascot and Jean Howells, Chairperson of the Organising Committee, welcomed the archers on behalf of the committee.Councillor Margaret Davies, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, welcomed archers and officials to the region and hoped they would enjoy their stay even though the weather may not be as favourable we would all like. The Mayor thanked the organisers for choosing this lovely area and appreciated the support of the sponsors. Tom Williamson, President of ArcheryGB, welcomed archers to Championships, hoped they would enjoy their shooting and meet friends old and new. Tom Dielen, FITA Secretary General, brought greetings and warm wishes from the FITA President, Prof. Dr. Ugur Erdener. Tom Dielen then formally declared open the Field World Championships 2008. The archers stood while the FITA flag was raised, accompanied by the FITA anthem. The Knight in Shining Armour on his white horse then lit the fiery Welsh Dragon. Following the official opening the Pandrys Male Voice Choir, conducted by John Samuel and accompanied by Gavin Parry, performed a number of songs, concluding with the Welsh anthem.
