Indoor World Championships - Quotes of Senior Team Eliminations
Rzeszow (POL)
Recurve Men Alain WILLS (GBR) photo – On winning against Russia We took a couple of end to warm-up and then we got into the right rhythm. Now we are ready and we are waiting the Italians next match. Recurve Women Aida ROMAN (MEX) – On their match against USA The final score is right according to our training standard. We shot a lot of tens and we are actually happy with the score. Until the third end we were winning, but then we shot three times 7s and the match was over. Now we will support our team in Recurve Men matches. Viktoriya KOVAL (UKR) – On shooting indoor In Ukraine, we have a long indoor season. I’m not a huge fan of it because it’s only one distance and the yellow is very small (smile). I am looking forward to shoot outdoor again with various distances and environments. At least, today I shot better than yesterday in individuals, but at the end, the Italians were just one point stronger. Compound Men Victor CANALEJAS (ESP) – After their semi-final against USA At the halfway mark we got them. A weak shot in the third end unfortunately damaged us. We have scored too many 9s, too. In the very last end, we shot 59 but it wasn't enough. It's a shame, because today we were in great shape. The score we realised in the quarterfinal match is now our new national record. Compound Women Mary HAMM (born ZORN) (USA) – On shooting a world record When you see people breaking world records, you want to do it, too. I think this record is still young. I mean that four years ago at my last world championships, we were not shooting this format in team competitions. So there is still a margin for improvement and we will try again in the final tomorrow. In fact, the record is still four points off perfection. It’s more difficult to reach perfection during a match than during practice. The competition makes people a bit nervous. On the same line, I don’t think we should make it more difficult for compound archers. In individual matches, I think there were a handful of perfect scores during the whole week across all categories. As long as it stays like this, you don’t need to make the competition harder. Lucy HOLDERNESS (GBR) – On winning in semi-final against Russia We have played a lot of matches against them and I guess we are about half-half in the number of victories. So we knew it would be a tough match and finally we won in the shoot-off, when we shot a perfect end. We will give it a go versus the US team tomorrow. It’s good to be in the final. It gives us credibility and hopefully this will rise some funding so that we can go to the World Cup stages. FITA Communication
