World Cup Stage 1 – Quotes of the Finals Day

  Recurve Men   India – Gold Medal photo of TALUKDAR It was a good fight. It was the first time we shot against the British team and it was very tight. We gained confidence as we started shooting the first 10. There is a great crowd and a nice atmosphere.   Great Britain – Silver Medal We feel good. It was the first time we shot together since the Olympic Games and last year wasn’t a good year for us as we didn’t have much chance to shoot together. We did not shoot as high a score as we did in our two last matches but the wind here was a bit tricky. However, the team spirit was high!   USA – Bronze Medal It was a good match in a very neat place. It is unusual for us to shoot with such a crowd behind us!   Recurve Women   Italy – Gold Medal It was a very good match and a beautiful venue, although there is not much shade for the archers… sun is nice but only on the beach wearing a bikini (laughs).   TONETTA photo: I am not so happy with my shooting. My technique was fine but I could not manage to group my arrows in the target.   Poland – Silver Medal It was very difficult because of the wind. It was coming up and down all the time but we are very happy with our silver medal, since this is the first stage of the year and we have a very young team of 22 and 25 year old archers. We got a great result.   Great Britain –Bronze Medal OLIVER: It was my first team event and I was really nervous. I am happy we did well, it was a good match.   WILLIAMSON: The venue was very different from last year and the wind started to show up at the beginning and remained variable throughout the match which added a degree of difficulty.   BURGESS: The whole team did really well with a calm and positive atmosphere. Hopefully the men will win gold later on!   Compound Men   USA – Gold Medal L. WILDE photo: It was great! The venue is very beautiful and I heard much less windy than last year.   How does the US Team plan to dominate all team events of the World Cup you participate in? I believe that we have so many outstanding compound archers in the US that back home we just get a high level of training by shooting against each other. We could easily bring 18 archers, have six teams and I would bet that we get all six first places. Other countries also have very good archers, but they may have only three or four and that makes the difference.   Canada – Silver Medal PARENTEAU: It was my first team event even though I am the oldest archer in the competition (54 years old). I trained a lot for this event and I guess I came very well prepared. I shot five 10s and one 9 and that is excellent. I am very happy with our result and I may participate in other World Cup stages this year.   El Salvador – Bronze Medal We are so happy! We took revenge from last year as we were also shooting for bronze against Mexico but they won that match. The field is fantastic and the crowd is improving year after year!   Compound Women   USA – Gold Medal We were so nervous (showing their hands still shaking after the match)! For sure this final was much better than last year, as there was no wind and the crowd was awesome.   WATSON photo: It was an awesome experience for a first round on my team. It was really great because I had great teammates and a true team inspiration. I am hoping to find the funds to go to another World Cup stage during the season.   Mexico – Silver Medal We are quite sad about not winning the gold medal but still happy with our shooting. We were feeling really good but we just had a bad end with two 8s and that’s when we handed victory to the US team.   India – Bronze Medal We are very happy to have won the bronze medal in this beautiful venue. We were concentrating so hard that we didn’t even notice the crowd behind us or our faces on the big screen.
