World Cup Stage 1 – Quotes of the Individual Finals
Santo Domingo
Recurve Men Romain GIROUILLE (FRA) – Gold Medal It was nice, I was relaxed at the beginning but as the match continued its flow, I got more and more stressed. The wind was not a big deal. I will for sure not be in Porec due to school exams and the trials for Antalya will be the same evening than my exams in another city, so I am not sure I can do it. We will see! Crispin DUENAS (CAN) – Silver Medal I could blame the 6 I shot to the wind or to bad luck, but it means I can only improve! I am very happy with my result, especially being the first outdoor competition of the year. The venue is great and the heat was not as tough as last year. But I guess that I can feel it less being an archer shooting the finals, than a tourist seating on the sun watching the finals. Simon TERRY (GBR) – Bronze Medal I am pleased and jolly. The venue is good and the wind not too bad… I was aiming on the red right and it went well. I’ve been shooting well since Nimes, hoping we can recover from the bad shots from the Olympics.
Recurve Women Natalia VALEEVA – Gold Medal This was the perfect holidays! Two gold medals (individual and team), one European Record and a lot of fun! Dola BANERJEE (IND) – Bronze Medal My shooting was so-so… At the end we were tied and Reena (KUMARI) shot a 7, after which I said I can allow a mistake and shoot a minimum of 8 to win, I finally shot a 9 and won the bronze medal. Compound Men
Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) – Gold Medal I feel relieved. It was a real tight match and either were anger to win! Patrizio HOFER (SUI) – Silver Medal It was all played in one arrow, one 8 that was released too low. But it is a good start for this season. Peter ELZINGA – Bronze Medal This was the last competition for my coach, Peter NIEUWENHUIS, and there is no more special gift than bringing a medal back home, I dedicate this victory to him. About the match, the first couple of shots were a bit tricky as the wind was harder to deal with than I thought Compound Women Brittany LORENTI (USA) – Gold Medal My whole body is shaking! It is amazing… this is one of the biggest tournaments I have been to and I put a lot of work in the preparation to come here and finally it paid off. Jamie VAN NATTA (ESA) – Silver Medal I don’t know what happened, I am not used to 7s and 8s, but I have no explanation… Could be the wind or just bad luck! But I am still happy with my 2nd place. Diane WATSON (USA) –Bronze Medal I am so excited! I feel so privileged to be here. It is my first final and being among all this great shooters gives me a great honour. Olga BOSCH (VEN) – Losing the Bronze Medal match I was really calm and relaxed, but all my arrows were going to the left… It is all experience to take. Chantal STEINER FITA Communication
