Ski Archery demonstration at Norwegian Biathlon Championships

FITA was informed that a very successful ski archery demonstration took place at the Norwegian Biathlon Championships in Lillehammer on 4 April 2009, with five Russian ski archers who drove across from Moscow.
There was a team of four Norwegians dressed in traditional clothes armed with longbows against four Russians with modern ski archery gear.
Alexander OS photo, the Norwegian biathlon champion this year, tried a couple of arrows immediately after the medal ceremony.
Further to this event a local newspaper suggested that the 12,000 skiers who take part each year in the famous Birkebeiner long distance cross-country skiing race finishing in Lillehammer should carry a bow instead of their 3kg back-pack to commemorate the journey taken by two soldiers back in 1206…
