Shanghai World Cup open

   Around 250 athletes from 35 countries gathered at the Yuan Shen Stadium in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai. The Chinese flag rose during the national anthem of the People's Republic of China before the honoured guests present at the ceremony delivered the official welcome to all participants. The speeches were made by Mr ZHANG Endi, the deputy administrative head of Pudong New Area, Mr GAO Zhidan (photo), FITA Council Member and Director General of shooting and archery administrative centre of the general administration of sport of China, Mr Tom DIELEN, FITA Secretary General and by Mr YU Chen, director general of Shanghai administration of sports.   The ceremony was entertained by typical and very enthusiastic art performances.   The competition starts tomorrow morning with the qualifications for Recurve Men and Compound Women. Finals will take place on Sunday 9 August on the Riverside Avenue in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai.   Didier MIEVILLE FITA Communication
