Finals in Yuan Shen Stadium
Shangai
The heavy weather forecast and the typhoon Morakot that is expected to hit Shanghai in the next 24 hours has prompted FITA and the Organising Committee to keep the competition in the Yuan Shen Stadium on Sunday. The archers have shot in this venue all week long and a field of play for finals has been designed in the stadium to cope with the special circumstances. The scheduled time of the matches stays the same and may be adapted on the spot due to the actual weather conditions. The typhoon Morakot is likely to become the first one to hit the city this year and his strength is still to be defined.
The original plan was to host the finals on the beautiful Riverside of Shanghai just underneath the famous TV tower. This plan or another one that fits the FITA concept “great event in spectacular places” will be back on the table next year. FITA Secretary General Tom DIELEN said: “In perfect agreement with the Organizing Committee, we have taken a safe decision. We still believe that we will stage exciting matches in front of numerous fans and live television tomorrow in the Yuan Shen Stadium. It is a modern stadium and it offers a lot for an event like tomorrow. Since the Archery World Cup is coming back to Shanghai at least in the next two years, we will have plenty of chances to showcase archery finals and the heart of the city next time.”
