World Cup Stage 4 – Quotes of the Finals

Recurve Men   CHEN Wenyuan (CHN) – individual gold and mixed team silver medals The difficulty was not so much the weather, it’s the psychological pressure. Now it’s a great feeling to have won a World Cup event in Shanghai, in China! I have been away from high level competition for sometimes. There are different reasons, but the most important is that now I am back!   Thomas AUBERT (FRA) – team silver medal I would say we were not so lucky with the wind. We had a lot of gusts when it was our turn to shoot. This said; the Koreans completely deserve to win, because they have such a control on their shots, on the match. It’s OK. we came to get a medal, and we got one. It’s good confidence before the World Championships and we know that we can play with the best. It’s right that we don’t let much time to Romain to shoot, but he manages it very well. Our sequence of shooting is like that.   Compound Men   Sergio PAGNI (ITA) – individual gold medal I felt strong the whole week. I shot over 1400 points in qualifications, then I shot 118, 119 during the matches. I feel proud to have won four World Cup stages in my career but it would be one more step ahead to win a World Cup Final or a World Championships. These two events are coming soon!   Ruben OCHOA (MEX) – team gold and mixed team silver medals It’s a great week; our performances got better every day. The whole team of Mexico has been performing well this week and we had four finals today! In the compound men’s team final, we shot with a lot of confidence and we believed until the end that we could caught the New Zealanders. We are reaching our peak and I am confident with my two young teammates for the upcoming world championships. The mixed team has also a nice format with one man and one woman. It’s a good chance for countries that may not have three strong shooters to form a regular team. I hope FITA can expand it with more mixed team matches in the upcoming years.   Stephen CLIFTON (NZL) – team silver medal This event is awesome and the organisation is very smooth. It is however much more humid than home, so it was challenging to adapt to the shooting conditions. But it’s OK you have to shoot your arrows. We have three good guys in the team. We are a stable team with no weak link. We beat a team like South Africa this week and it gives confidence. Now we go back two weeks at home and we will practice every day until we fly to Korea for the World Championships. In both individuals and teams, I am hoping for a top 8 finish, maybe a medal. We probably need to stay away from the American team.   Compound Women   Camilla SOEMOD (DEN) – individual and mixed team gold medals Sometime ago, I promised that I will be back on top and here I am, going to shoot a World Cup Final at home! The conditions were tough. You can see it on the scores. However I took it one arrow at the time. I had only one arrow out of the gold and that’s because I shot it too fast. The rest went fine and it’s a great feeling!   Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) – individual bronze and team gold medals Indeed, this is a young team. Viktoria BALZHANOVA is 20 and EKATERINA KOROBEYNIKOVA is 16! They were a bit nervous and the weather conditions did not help to shoot a good match. Mexico had some troubles, too. There was a lot of wind on the shooting line which did not help for the stability of the bow. However, there was not so much wind at the targets, so I aimed straight at the 10. Tomorrow we go to Coach KIM centre in Korea with the whole team. We will have a camp for three weeks there and the coaches will decide who participate at the World Championships.   Linda OCHOA (DEN) – team and mixed team silver medals It was so windy, but it was good to shoot on the field before my individual final this afternoon. We showed that we are competitive. It’s a dream to get a medal at the world championships and we will keep working until then.   Didier MIEVILLE FITA Communication
