World Archery Championships – Quotes of the Recurve Women Qualifications

KWAK Ye Ji (KOR)    Recurve Women
KWAK Ye Ji (KOR) – 1st “I was nervous but I wanted to finish 1st because it is my first world championships. I was under a lot of pressure but someone encouraged me to focus on my shooting. My family will not come to watch me because they are worried about the swine influenza.”
YUN Ok-Hee (KOR) – 2nd “Even though I’m the most experienced archer on the Korean team, I didn’t give any special advice to the less experienced athletes. I just told them: ‘Enjoy the competition and take it easy, don’t be too serious.’”
JOO Hyun-Jung (KOR) – 3rd “Competing in Korea is difficult because of the wind, so many foreign athletes’ results are lower than they expected. Although I felt some pressure because too many people were cheering us on, I tried to do my best to fulfil people’s expectations.”
Justyna MOSPINEK (POL) – 4th “I started very well. I was focused on the target and everything was good: the weather, my mind... In the 60 meters it started to be windier, making it more difficult to shoot well, but ending in 4th place is very good. Actually after I heard that I was 1st after the 70m, I became nervous and didn’t shoot as well as in the previous distance. But I won the 70m, that’s good.”
Jennifer NICHOLS (USA) – 7th “I’m very pleased with how I performed today. I had a little bit of difficulty at 70 meters but everything else went fine. It was a little bit windy, but this is an archery tournament! Today’s competition was very enjoyable, I had a great time with my fellow competitors. It’s fabulous to see so many people in the audience. Archery doesn’t usually receive that much attention, even in the United States. It’s really fantastic to have so many spectators attending and cheering.”
Victoriya KOVAL (UKR) – 8th individually and 4th with team “Our team trained a lot for this competition. We already spent three weeks in Korea along with archers from Russia and Denmark for a training camp given by coach KIM. We have a good team and hope to win a medal, of course! It’s our dream but it’s hard because the three team members will have to be consistent and all the teams that came here prepared so much for these World Championships.”
Celine SCHOBINGER (SUI)Khatuna NARIMANIDZE (GEO) – 14th individually and 5th with team “It’s a complete surprise that I scored so high because I’m recovering from injuries that I sustained in a car accident a couple of months ago. I had surgery to insert a metal plate in my right collarbone. I competed in France before coming to Ulsan and the injury was bothering me. But here I don’t feel any pain because I’m excited about the competition! We prepared very well as a team before coming to Korea. For example, a special test was held in our country. The most important thing now is that we have three archers who can shoot good scores for our team. We are getting better and better.”
Celine SCHOBINGER (SUI) – 31st “I’m happy with my performance even though I missed breaking the Swiss national record by only 2 points. I’m mad about it, but not too much because I broke my personal best today. It’s a great feeling to do it at a World Championships.”
