Natalia VALEEVA (ITA): “I like it when there is something new in archery” Ulsan (KOR) – 6 September 2009
2007 World Champion Natalia VALEEVA (ITA) competed today in the elimination matches at the World Archery Championships in Ulsan. We sat with her for a short interview.  What can you say about your performance in these World Championships? I know that now it’s too late, but I should have done a better qualification round, only to be able to face the Koreans as late as possible.
How was your match against the Korean JOO Hyun-Jung? I made one big mistake at the beginning: I left her a 5-point advantage. She feels pressure, like all the other archers competing in the elimination rounds in these championships.
The psychological advantage she took due to that 5-point lead let her shoot more relaxed and achieve a score of 59 over 60 in the second end.
How do you feel going into the team competition? Unfortunately, we are not seeded very well because Pia (LIONETTI) had to shoot the qualification round with my second bow and my arrows. Her bow was lost by the airline and we received it only the evening after qualifications.
After individual the matches that weren't so good for all of us, we want to take our revenge in the team matches. We’ll see tomorrow.
What do you think about the novelties that the FITA Congress introduced for next year? In my opinion it's good to have this kind of modifications. It gives less advantage to the opponent, even if you shoot a bad single end.
By the way, I started the competitions with Double FITA Round. I like it when there is something new. After all, I’m an archer and I’ll shoot competition in the format FITA thinks is the best for archery.
