Chinese National Games: high visibility for archery! Lausanne/Qingdao – 27 October 2009   The Chinese National Games were held on 17-23 October 2009 in Qingdao, Shandong (China). Popularly known as the "Chinese Olympic Games", they are the most important sports event at the national level. The archery competition had high visibility and exposure with live broadcast on Chinese TV.   These Games, held once every four years, are the Chinese national equivalent to the Olympic Games. As such, they are the most important and prestigious national sports event. This year the President of China Mr. Hu JINTAO and the President of the International Olympic Committee Mr. Jacques ROGGE attended the opening ceremony.   The archery competition format was that of the Olympic Games: 64 women and 64 men competed in the recurve division, individually and with their team. Archers came from 25 different Chinese regions. The Chinese Archery Federation put up a great show following the World Cup examples.   As the most important sports event in China, the National Games attracted major media interest and were widely broadcast on local television networks.
