13 November 2009 - First ever archery event at the Asian Indoor Games

First Ever Archery Event at the Asian Indoor Games Lausanne – 13 November 2009 The 3rd Asian Indoor Games were held in Vietnam from 30 October to 8 November 2009. An Indoor Archery Event was included for the very first time in the programme of these Games.   The Archery Event was held from 1-6 November in Hai Phong, the third largest city in Vietnam. The FITA Vice-President Sanguan KOSAVINTA was appointed Technical Delegate for this competition by the Asian Archery Federation.   A total of 114 archers from 15 Asian countries participated in the archery event. Korea won all four gold medals in the recurve division. Iran was almost as successful in compound with three golds. The remaining gold medal (Women Compound Individual) went to Thailand.    The results demonstrated that the smaller archery nations from Asia are reducing the gap that separates them from the strongest nations. For example, in the Recurve Men Team event Vietnam pushed China to their limits in quarterfinals: the two teams tied and China finally won in the shoot-off.   This competition showed that Asian archery is doing very well. We can predict that the Asian countries will stay at the top level thanks to the emergence of several new nations that did not belong to the world elite before.      By Sanguan KOSAVINTA FITA Vice-President Edited by FITA Communication     Results   Recurve Men 1.
