19 November 2009 - Competition started at the Asian Archery Championships

Competition started at the Asian Archery Championships! Lausanne – 19 November 2009   The 16th Asian Archery Championships are being held on 15-21 November in Bali, Indonesia. Team and individuals from 32 countries competed in the qualifications of the Recurve and Compound divisions. The organizers followed the example set by the Archery World Cup, with a competition field at the foot of the spectacular Bajra Sandhi monument.  In the Recurve Men division, 18-year-old KIM Seong-Hoon (KOR) was the best in qualifications, ahead of the 2009 World Champion LEE Chang-Hwan, also from Korea. The Indian men gave in a great performance with Rahul BANERJEE in 3rd, and the World Cup finalist Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND) in 5th. Korea also dominated the Recurve Women category, both individually and as a team. Four Korean archers occupied the top 4 spots!   India and Iran were the best in the Compound Men division, placing 1st and 2nd, respectively. On the women's side, the Koreans also dominated the Compound qualifications! They put three archers in the top 4 and were in 1st place as a team, followed by Iran and India. The winner from the Asian Championships 2007 KWON Oh Hyang ended up in 1st place individually. Two team silver medallists from the 2009 World Archery Championships are competing in Bali.
