Quotes of the individual eliminations

Recurve
Marc DELLENBACH (FRA) – Coach of the recurve archers
The Set System is great! Both archers have a chance to win until the end; there is suspense until the last arrow! Today, we were bit disappointed to lose two spots in the gold medal matches in a shoot-off, but this is sport. We will win next time.
Berengere SCHUH (FRA)
Of course, it is a bit frustrating to lose on a one-arrow shoot-off only, especially after shooting a 10! Moreover, since we had to wait a bit to shoot, the wind calmed down. I think I would have been better than my opponent with some wind. In any case, she shot a beautiful 10 very close to the bull’s eye and I achieved a good result this morning.
The Set System is quite good! However, there will always be upsets. Maybe even more, because the outcome will often be decided in the last set. I think it will often be the case as of the 1/16 elimination round. Yes, this system allows you to shoot a bad arrow and stay in the match. However, this is valid for both archers. So it also gives a chance to the underdog to win the match.
This is still the beginning of the season and I am not in top shape yet. In fact, I shoot late in the set, because I need this pressure. If I start too early, I ask myself too many questions. I am a perfectionist. Today the wind made my job a bit harder, but overall things went well.
Justyna MOSPINEK (POL)
It seems that for me the Set System is harder. I had to go to three or five sets all the time. It was hard especially in the first round, when I trailed my opponent after the first set. In the other matches, at least, I was leading all the time. I did not feel mentally tired, but definitely you have to focus until the last arrow if you don’t want to suffer an upset. I must admit this format is interesting. Probably it will help a bit the medium level archers. They can hang in there and maybe upset somebody in the last set.
Sergio Pagni (ITA)
I like the Set System because there are more arrows to shoot in a match in order to see who is the best. My favourite format is 5 sets of 3 arrows because you can come back even if you lose a set. I think the tricky thing will be to manage the finals. The time change to 20 seconds is not an issue. I shot in 20 seconds in Copenhagen and I won. In the past years I used to try and build some advantage in the first ends and then keep this advantage. With the Set System you need to change the way you shoot finals. I like this kind of competition. I'd like to have a shorter interval between rounds because you have to reset the psychological advantage on your next opponent.
Sam KYRITSOGLOU (BEL)
The Set System puts more pressure on the athletes. Within the former rules, when you gained some advantage over your opponent, you were able to count on it and relax a little bit. Now, every set is a new challenge and the situation starts from scratch with every set... but the competition is more fun.

I don’t know yet. It’s only my third time shooting it. It will take a couple more tournaments to adapt. I feel pretty good about my performance today, I shot really well in the first matches. In the last match I just didn’t manage to “save my life”, my arrows went all around the 10 ring but not inside it.
Sandrine VANDIONANT (FRA)
It is different mentally, it is a true competition. The game is never finished, you have to stay focused all the way.
Albina LOGINOVA (RUS)
I think the Set System has its positives and negatives. For example under the old competition format I would have won my quarterfinal match today, but with the new Set System I lost. It’s my fault, of course. We will all need time to get used to the new format and soon there shouldn’t be any problems. But for now the change is still very recent.
