Quotes of the team eliminations

Vic WUNDERLE (USA)
I am shooting well this week. We scored 220 with the team and this is the first time we shoot together at the World Cup level. We also shot during the Arizona Cup. Brady ELLISON and Jake KAMINSKI practice more often together. I try to join them whenever it is possible. Today China was just a bit better than us, but we will have other chances.
About the Set Sytem for individuals, I think this is mentally a lot different than before. You have to focus on each set. If you lose one, just focus on the next one. You need to take some risks. For instance, I needed a 10 to win a set and I was running into time trouble. But I took the time to shoot this 10. It was either I shoot 10 or I don’t shoot, because I had no more time. So far, it has been going well since I reached the final in the three competitions with sets that I have participated in, including here in Porec.
We appreciate that FITA looks for new ways to improve our sport year after year.
Crispin DUENAS (CAN)
Yesterday, during the Set System, I focused too much on the arrows of my opponent. I should have shot as usual.
Today I was more confident with my shots. I had better timing. This is our first event of the year together so a 213 score is OK for day. We have only practiced for two weeks outdoor. We will be in Antalya and I have the full confidence in my teammates that by then we will score 220 at least. Then hopefully, we can have the same team for the World Cup Stage 3 in Ogden.
Natalya ERDYNYEVA (RUS)
I am the oldest in the team—that tells you how young the team is! Today, we did not shoot so well but I am sure we will be ready for the European Championships at the end of the month.
Looking back at the Set System yesterday, I think it is interesting, but it probably makes the job even tougher for the top archers. We may score more points and lose the match at the end. When the other archer has a bad arrow, you only win two set points. So the match goes on and you can’t relax until the end. The arrow in the last sets will always be very important.
Compound
Martin DAMSBO (DEN)
There was suddenly some wind the last end of the semifinal. It cost the Dutch more than it cost us and we pulled through a come-from-behind victory.
I don’t have a definitive idea about the individual Set System yet. Yesterday my matches would have declared the same winner with Set System or the traditional one. I haven’t tried Hit/Miss target either. We will know more about all this after Turkey.
Roberto HERNADEZ (ESA)
It took too long for the team to shoot during the third end and our last teammate did not have a chance to shoot the last arrow. In any case, we were already trailing the USA in our semifinal.
About the Set System, I must say that I don’t like it much so far. We should not allow an archer to shoot a bad arrow and still be able to win the match. For me, compound is about shooting the most 10s in a match. The one shooting the most 10s should win. Of course, let’s do some more testing this year and we will how it goes.
Jamie VAN NATTA (USA)
For teams, we still shoot 24 arrows no matter what. So it is OK if we collect ourselves for the last end to win our semifinal (smiling, after the team had to fight hard in the fourth end to beat the Netherlands).
I am still on the fence about the Set System. I need to test it more, as well as the Hit/Miss target.
Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA)
We are really excited to the idea of the final match. We lost in the semifinals in Korea against the Russians and we want to take our revenge. Both in the medal match in Ulsan and here, we are shooting high scores. We know that tomorrow in the Marina it should be windy and we are well prepared to it. Stay tuned for tomorrow results.
Albina Loginova (RUS)
We are ready for tomorrow's match. We will try to shoot all the arrows in the gold... We are not allowed any mistake against a team like the USA (smiling). In this competition they seem stronger than us. However, we give our best when there's a lot of wind, so we really hope that tomorrow it will be a windy day.
