European Championships open in Rovereto (ITA) - Live streaming of Mixed Team Event and Finals!
Lausanne - 26 May 2010
The European Championships were opened yesterday by the EMAU President, after a dance performance in the city centre. The competition started in a spirit of fair play in the Centro Arcieri Baldresca which has just opened a dedicated archery centre for the Club Kappa Kosmos.
The field has all modern facilities and is home of the club that has generated many World and European champions. This includes Elena TONETTA and Amadeo TONELLI. Tonelli’s father is the president of the organising committee.
Rovereto is a city and comune in the province of Trento in Italy, located in the Vallagarina valley of the Adige River. Rovereto was an ancient fortress town standing at the frontier between the bishopric of Trento - an independent state until 1797 - and the republic of Venice, and later between Austrian Tyrol and Italy.
The mighty bell Maria Dolens, the largest outside Russia and East Asia, and the largest sounding bell in the world. Maria Dolens ("the grieving Virgin Mary") was built under the inspiration of a local priest, between 1918 and 1925, to commemorate the fallen in all wars, and to this day it sounds for the dead every day. Originally a patriotic rather than pacifist idea, it is today regarded as a shrine to peace.
