7 June 2010 - Begunhan Elif UNSAL (TUR): “I want to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games”

Begunhan Elif UNSAL (TUR): “I want to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games” Antalya (TUR) – 7 June 2010   Begunhal Elif UNSAL (TUR) was the surprise bronze medallist at the recent European Championships in Rovereto. We met the 17-year-old in Antalya where she is competing at the World Cup Stage 2 this week.  Congratulations on your bronze medal! How did you start archery? My father is an archery coach and he introduced me to archery when I was 11-12. I liked it from the start.   Were you expecting a medal at the European Championships? No, it was a big surprise. I was well prepared for the competition but I wasn’t hoping for a medal. Now, here in Antalya, I am hoping for a medal.   In Rovereto you won the bronze medal match 7-3 against Justyna MOSPINEK (POL), the winner of the 2008 World Cup Final. How did it feel to shoot against her? Before the match I was wondering if I could win, but as soon as I started shooting I believed I would win the game.   What are your goals for the future? To win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.   What is the situation of archery in Turkey? I believe we are a leading country in archery, which is a great luck. In my opinion we are better than most countries.   How are your training conditions? Like everyone else I train first in my region, Isparta, with my father. After the regional training there are national team camps, and then we take part in the national and international competitions. I train everyday on an average of 2-3 hours.   What do you like best in archery? I like competition more than training.   What are your activities outside of archery? I’m a high school student and after I graduate I plan to study gastronomy and food engineering at the University. In my free time apart from shooting I like to read, listen to music and spend time with my friends.   Thank you Begunhan, and all the best for the future!   Vanahé ANTILLE FITA Communication
