Quotes from the individual finals

Sergey BUBKA (UKR) – IOC member and President of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee This is very exciting! I enjoy watching archery! I was already there when Viktor RUBAN won the Olympic gold in Beijing. Viktoriya KOVAL’s match today was exciting, because both archers had the lead one after the other. Victoriya had to adapt, to fight and at the end she took the victory. This is great sport! I also like this special field beside the beach in Antalya. It is OK that athletes need to adapt to different conditions. In my time, we also had to adjust to different surface, different atmosphere. The bests of the bests are the ones who adapt themselves to the conditions in order to win.  Recurve Men   Brady ELLISON (USA) - bronze The first two sets against Michele FRANGILLI in my semifinal this morning are probably the only ones I would like to have back. Down two sets to none, it was a bit of make or break. I tried to shoot for perfection and hoped his level would go down a little bit. However, I can only control what I do. At the end, I managed to tie the match, but Michele was just a little better than me in the shoot-off.   In the bronze medal match, I saw that Shungo TABATA was very expressive after each shot, but that did not bother me. I do express myself after each set or end, this is part of my routine. Maybe this is a bit new in archery and some may think it is a bit cocky, but it really is not. I actually think it is great for our sport that the athletes show their emotions.   Recurve Women   Victoriya KOVAL (UKR) - gold This is a great birthday present! There are many things in your mind when you enter the field and of course I thought a bit about my unlucky final in Antalya two years ago. However, even more so with the new set system, you really need to focus on each arrow, each set. Previously when you have had a good end, you could relax a little bit. Now it is really about the present moment.   I did not know that Sergey BUBKA was in the tribune when I shot. This is great that he was there. I am so surprised and happy! He is a very important person in our country, probably the best sportsman ever!   Inna STEPANOVA (RUS) - silver We are working hard every day and this is great to get some rewards for our efforts! I am young archer and my personal coach still helps me so much. I liked it a lot here with all the Russians fans!   Ksenia PEROVA (RUS) - bronze I have put a lot of training recently. I have also done physical fitness and, of course, our coaches are making us better. I also study psychological science and I think this helps me with archery. These are all the reasons why I have earned some good results recently. I do not know if the Set System helps me, but I like it. I was confident to win the 3rd place this afternoon. On the field I concentrate at 70% of the target and at 30% on my coach!  Compound Men   Martin DAMSBO (DEN) - gold I have done so many 3rd and 4th places that it is great to finally win a World Cup! It gives me even more motivation for the future! I am still young and have a lot of archery ahead of me!   Vladas SIGAUSKAS (LTU) - bronze I was 4th the Porec World Cup last year and the European Championships last month. I am very happy that I finally made it to the podium. It is my first medal at the World Cup level, but I earned one in a European Grand Prix. I will continue until I get a gold medal! This is what I told my Russian coach when I started archery. I am not so young but I only started five years ago. I was in Russia and I saw some people doing archery. One hour later I bought my first bow!   Compound Women   Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) - gold I have been quite successful in the USA in recent years and now I am very happy to break through at the international level. I actually did not have the chance to practice on Hit/Miss targets before the event. I adapted throughout the week, starting with the practice on Monday. Such final field are great. There are the fans, the atmosphere—it was a great experience!   Ashley WALLACE (CAN) - bronze I haven’t had the chance to practice on Hit/Miss target before coming here. So I just tried to shoot strong and solid. Early July, we will have the Canadian trials for the Commonwealth Games. The selected athletes will go to the World Cup in Ogden and to the Games in New Delhi. I hope I will qualify and that my planning will allow me to go to both events.   Didier MIEVILLE World Archery Communication
