6 July 2011 - Flash Quotes from Team Elimination

Flash Quotes from Team Elimination Turin – 6 July 2011   Today was Team Elimination day and also the Recurve Team Qualification for the Olympic Games. We asked some archers and coaches about their feelings and results.  Inna STEPANOVA (RUS) We were seeded lower than GBR. They were already sure to go to London (note: as the host country, they automatically get three spots) but they did their best the same. It was a tight match but at the end we won by one point. Enough to clinch the match!    Chekrovolu SWURO (IND) We beat Denmark and Korea, which was a very strong team. We had fun, we enjoyed it! Now we are in the final against Italy and we are expecting to have fun and to win. When you win you are always very happy, and so now we are. We hope we will be happier after winning the gold medal.   Gael PREVOST (FRA) We achieved our goal because we wanted to be in the final and for the second time we made it. This time we are against Korea, we beat Italy and now we are more relaxed. The score of the first match was very low, but now we are calm and things are getting better.   Chu Sian CHENG (MAS) We lost the first round against France, so we had a delay. My coach did his best in order to change the result of the shoot-off, but we lost and we were very disappointed. However, now we are the winners among the losers and we qualified for London 2012.

Juan Rene SERRANO (MEX) After defeating the Russian Federation we all were free of pressure. We were waiting for this moment for a long time, because it's important for us as a team and as a country to be at the Olympics with three athletes. It never happened that the Mexican team qualifies for the Olympics so soon at the World Championships. After this, we really were more relaxed and we were able to win against USA, even if it's one of the strongest teams in the world. Today it's really a great day for us!   Victoriya KOVAL (UKR) The shoot-off of today was very, very stressing: it was making the difference between be sure to go at the Olympics or have to fight for another year. There was an issue with the timing system, but we shoot as usual and we were able to shoot our three arrows in 40 seconds, but when I saw I had only five seconds left, I was really, really afraid to shoot out of time and I'm still shaking. The appeal of Italy kept us waiting for the Jury decision results for about 40 minutes and after then we had to play the shoot-off again. Never seen before... By the way, not as what happened at the Beijing Olympics, in London, Ukraine will have the full team in both categories.   Eduardo GONZALEZ (VEN) We like this venue and we shot very well. In this condition we were able to score our national record.   Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) We were trailing at the beginning, we were feeling the pressure because of the television but then the things got better and we are in the gold final again. Now our goal is to become world champions. Moreover, it has been great to shoot the new world record very close to the full score.   Shabnam SARLAK (IRI) We are so happy: it is a very good thing for us to be here competing at these World Championships. We shot even better than the Korean men in this match with 230 points on our side despite their 227. Of course, our main goal is to get the gold medal, maybe shooting the new world record in the last match.   Gladys WILLEMS (BEL) This is a very nice place and both the view and the weather are really good. My qualification round was not as good as I was expecting but I hope that tomorrow things will be better.   Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) This morning our spot was to be next Saturday on the gold final field of play. We did our best but it was not enough and we are out of the game. Our men team in compound never reached this level. In fact they scored our new national record. Maybe we had to wait too much because of the appeal in the recurve matches. It was a very long day but that is not a problem. The real problem is that sometimes you have too many things on your mind and you keep thinking about the competition, the following match and the future in general. To solve this problem, I try to concentrate only on shooting, on the connection between me and my bow.   Torben JOAHNNAESSEN (DEN) This is the fourth gold medal match in a row: one in the European Indoor Championships and the other two in the World Cup in Porec and Antalya against team USA. In Cambrils we won but in the World Cup we were silver medal twice. Now we are looking for our "revenge". I'm really feeling the pressure and the hot weather but we demonstrated what we can do tying the former world record and probably set the new European record.   Dajana PICCOLO, Matteo PISANI, Rebecca RABOZZI World Archery Communication
