Quotes of Compound Finals

Compound Men   Reo WILDE (USA) – individual and team gold medallist for the second time in Shanghai It is a neat a venue. Although we always have special venues for finals matches of the World Cup, this one with the river all along the way is quite special. The breeze was nearly not as strong as yesterday, so not a factor at all. I built a good lead at the beginning but I kept focusing on my own score. If you focus on the opponent you may actually find yourself too close to him suddenly (in terms of score). And then you are in trouble.   When I arrive, I will only spend one day at home and then fly to Florida for a US ranking event. So I really want to thank my wife for her great support and understanding.   Dave COUSINS (USA) – team gold medallist The three of us have been shooting many times together and it’s good to know you are playing with truly top archers. I think it brings confidence to each of us and we are happy to show it on the field. Sometimes we are really pumped-up! I believe it is an advantage to really cheer for each other on the field, compared to some other teams that seems to just come and shoot.   About the score, I believe the archers on the field should not field about a world record. We need to focus on the process, on the pure elements of shooting, not the results. Because if you shoot a 9 (and then you know you already of the record) and think “I just missed the world record” – this is the best way to be thrown out of your game and lose everything.   Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) – team gold medallist It is good to know that even if you shoot a 9, you have two teammates that can pick it up and shoot a lot of 10s. The US team set the world record at 239 during the World Championships in Turin and we have been close many times. So of course, it is on the back of our mind that we would like to shoot perfectly, but this is not something we would worry about. We just hope to make it one day on a final field to put up a good show.   Dominique GENET (FRA) – individual bronze, team silver medallist and mixed team gold medallist First of all, we did very well in the mixed team final with Pascale despite a slow start. We kept our focus and at the end, we got a superb victory over the USA. Such victory don’t come so often.   In my match for the bronze against my teammate Pierre Julien, I think that we both shot great. I guess my experience helped me a little bit.   Let’s take it step by step. First the next World Cup stage in Antalya, then the European Championships in Amsterdam and then only we will think abou the qualifications for the 2013 World Games in Cali.   Pierre Julien DELOCHE (FRA) –team silver medallist and 4ht in individual I think the experience of special, final field was a factor in my bronze medal match against Dominique. But I am very happy I gave him a great challenge. I finished with a perfect 30 and he needed a perfect 30 to win the match. He did it – hat off! I am happy a Frenchman climbed on the podium and I took some more experience.   We lost the gold medal again against the USA in the team event. Altough we start to know what to do and to perform like they do in practice, it is another matter to do it on the final field.   I learned this week that we need to be in the top 10 in the world this year to qualify for the new compound competition at eht 2013 World Games in Cali. I am close to the top 10 and this gives me great motivation.   Compound Women   Marcella TONIOLI (ITA) – individual gold medallist The score may look easy but it was not. Let’s remember that Albina is two times world champion. After my first arrow that was not so good (an 8), I certainly like the fact that I shot pretty consistently in the 10-ring.   Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) – individual and team silver medallist I shot OK. This is a good start of the outdoor season. For the final, I will actually have to look at the video on www.archery.tv to see how exactly it went. I need to study a few things.   This was actually my first individual gold final at a World Cup Stage. I only did it at the World Championships and the World Cup Final before (smiling).   Diane WATSON (USA) – individual bronze medallist I ranked only 35th in qualifications. So actually I should not really be shooting for the bronze today. However, we have done some great work with the coaches during the week to correct a few things on my shot and it paid off during the matches.   First I led during this bronze medal match, but then Danielle came back strong (10, 10, 10) to tie the score. But it is like this; you need to able to forget on what happened and focus on your next shot, especially for the shoot-off. It is like turning off and turning on the light.   Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) – team gold medallist Among the team, this is actually our first or second tournament of the season. Our indoor season is long and important in the USA. So we felt actually a bit rusty, but this is definitely a good start. It is always a challenge to shoot against Russia but overall we shot as well as we hoped to.   I must say on this final field I actually had trouble to know where my arrows were going. It took me sometime to figure it out, but at the end I could help the team the way I wanted.   Natalia AVDEEVA (RUS) – team silver medallist We lost against the USA in the final last year in Shanghai. So we thought we would take this second chance. We ready for it and pumped-up, but the USA were again too good today. Hopefully at the next stage Antalya we will win, but we have the Russian championships in between.   It is great to be on a World Cup Stage: it’s emotion, it’s adrenaline and we are any way focussed on our targets! It doesn’t matter when these huge boats passed by on the river.   Mixed Team   Pascale LEBECQUE (FRA) – gold medal I believe we came back at the end of the match, because we were the most consistent team. I hope this victory will help me for the rest of the season from an individual point of view as well. It is as good to shoot mixed team with Dominique as with Pierre Julien. The first gives confidence because he is so calm and the latter brings a lot of positive energy.   Danielle BROWN (GBR) – bronze medal The conditions were a little different than in the practice field so it was difficult to figure it out. Actually my arrows were not going the same way as these of Duncan so we could not help each other out. One was too much on the right, the other too much on the left.   It is actually the first time I shot the mixed team in an abled-bodied competition. It is of course a bit different than with my para-teammates. Most important this is just a lot of fun. I am enjoying so much to be here and I am thankful to my federation for sending me. I am competiting with abled-bodied in the UK as well and this is the best traning for my para-archery competitions.   Duncan BUSBY (GBR) – bronze medal It is a lot of fun to shoot with Danielle. She is used to compete with us back home and this week she proved once again she is a top flight archer. I believe we have shot to the best of our ability taking in accound the conditions. At the end, I suppose we got a bit of luck for the victory but it happens.   More interviews will be published soon on www.archery.tv   World Archery Communication
