Heinz-Helmut FISCHER elected new President in Germany
Mr FISCHER was the former Vice-President and had to take over the running of the federation when President Josef AMBACHER passed away in September last year. Mr FISCHER had a very emotional speech with a special remembrance to Mr AMBACHER.
The General Assembly was held in Potsdam and was attended by many renowned guests including H.H. Prince Andreas of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and Brandenburg’s Prime Minister, Mr Matthias PLATZECK.
The World Archery Secretary General, Tom Dielen, attended the General Assembly for the second time and was joined for the first time by Franz SCHREIBER, his counterpart from ISSF.
In his speech, Mr DIELEN stressed the excellent work done by the DSB in the event organisation area, such as the nationwide club day where 4400 clubs participated last year and which is scheduled this year again. He looked forward to come to Germany for international events such as the World Archery Para Championships in 2015. He also thanked the German officials that contribute every day to the well running of World Archery.
The second important decision of the day was the unanimous acceptance of the DSB new statutes. This change was necessary to make the federation keener to modern changes in elite sport, while protecting the shooting and archery sport heritage. The statute change gives a bigger role to Archery, which is clearly differentiated in the constitution. It also gives a clear attribution to the vice-presidents whom are now responsible for a particular domain. All vice-presidents were afterwards elected with the exception of the Youth one, which will be elected in September at a youth assembly.
The day concluded with a parade in the city of Potsdam showing the rich tradition of the DSB, fourth biggest national federation in Germany and among the top three Archery federations in World Archery.”
