The individual competition at the Tlaxcala 2026 Pan American Championships narrowed to the final four in each category on Friday, with the compound and recurve medal matches scheduled for Sunday.

Two defending recurve champions remain in contention from the 2024 Pan American Championships: Mexico’s Matias Grande in recurve men and USA’s Casey Kaufhold in recurve women.

Grande will face Canada’s Eric Peters in the first semifinal, while USA’s Brady Ellison and Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida in a blockbuster second semifinal. The four semifinalists were the top four seeds after qualification.

Kaufhold takes on another Canadian, Virginie Chénier, in the opening semifinal, while teammate Jennifer Mucino faces home favourite Angela Ruiz.

Chénier made her international debut as a junior in 2008 and won recurve women’s bronze at the 2024 Pan American Championships. Ruiz, meanwhile, was part of Mexico’s Olympic bronze medal-winning recurve women’s team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Compound women features top seed Alejandra Usquiano against defending champion Alexis Ruiz, while Colombia’s Sara Lopez faces Mexico’s Adriana Castillo in the second semifinal.

Castillo, seeded 10th, booked her place in the final four by defeating world number one Andrea Becerra in the quarterfinals. Earlier in the week, Usquiano, Lopez and Mariana Rodriguez also combined to set a new Americas qualification record of 2124 points, finishing just two short of the world record.

Compound men will see Isaac Sullivan of the USA against 2019 Pan Am Games champion Roberto Hernandez of El Salvador, with the winner facing the winner of Andrew Fagan of Canada and Gaius Carter of the USA.

Compound men sees USA archer Isaac Sullivan face 2019 Pan American Games champion Roberto Hernandez, while Andrew Fagan meets Gaius Carter in the second semifinal.

Competition continues on Saturday with the mixed team and barebow finals.
