24 world records broken since pandemic hiatus on recognised events ended in July

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devasting effect on this year’s sporting calendar. Not just cancelling the international season, the tournament hiatus meant national events were not recognised for world records between March and the start of July.

It’s been two months since recognition resumed – and since then, we’ve had 24 record scores shot.

Mike Schloesser had the most recent major record, breaking Peter Elzinga’s compound men’s mark on the 1440 Round by two, after shooting 1421 points in Boekel this past weekend. Kang Chae Young upped a long-standing distance score for recurve women at the very start of July.

And there’s been a host of the newer records on the roster – for barebows and the double 72-arrow rounds, which were only made available recently – especially at one particular tournament.

Twelve new world records were set at the USA nationals, held in Virginia in mid-August, including nine world bests across the barebow categories. World champions Brady Ellison and James Lutz, along with Casey Kaufhold, also shot top scores there.

Scroll down for a list of world records set between 1 July and 31 August 2020.

World records must be set at tournaments held to World Archery rules and registered in the World Archery calendar. Scores must be submitted by national archery federations to the World Archery office to be ratified as records.
