British team announced for season opener in Antalya

Great Britain has announced the squad it will send to the first stage of the 2023 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya and the line-up returns two of last season’s most exciting emerging talents.

Ella Gibson, the reigning world number one who won three of three stages of the international tour and finished second at the circuit final in 2022, leads a three-strong compound team, while Bryony Pitman heads up the recurve roster.

Pitman won in Antalya last year. Both archers made their Hyundai Archery World cup Final debuts last season.

“We very much believe we can back up the success of 2022 and that our women will be the mix for medals all season,” said Archery GB’s compound programme manager Jon Nott.

The British compound women’s team is currently ranked number two globally, while the recurve women sit at number four.

With Olympic places for Paris 2024 being awarded on the Sanlida World Archery Ranking as well as being won in competition, starting at this summer’s world championships, the recurve women’s position is particularly important. Results now matter, and Pitman and her team have been tasked with putting Britain in position for the next Games.

Further selections will decide whether the British line-up changes for the 2023 Hyundai World Archery Championships and later stages of the Hyundai Archery World Cup.
