Healey, Paterson nominated for Sunday Times sports awards

Penny Healey and Phoebe Peterson Pine nominated for The Times Award.

Penny Healey and reigning Paralympic Champion Phoebe Paterson Pine have been shortlisted for sportswomen of the year awards by The Sunday Times, a weekly national newspaper in Britain.

Healey had a career-best season in 2023, winning the European Games, securing her country’s first Olympic quota for Paris 2024 and qualifying for her first Hyundai Archery World Cup Final, and is so in the young sportswomen category.

“You can be competitive internationally at any age,” she said in Krakow. “There’s really no limits.”

Penny also spent time at world number one and took her first stage win on the Hyundai Archery World Cup stage win during the season.

Paterson Pine is nominated for the Citi disability sportswoman award.

The 25-year-old Paralympic Champion became a world champion in the compound women’s doubles event and won mixed team gold at the European Para Championships as well as ranking number one in the world this season.

Two-time Paralympic Champion Danielle Brown was a previous recipient in 2010.

The results of this year’s awards are expected to be announced by the end of the year.
