Korea and Chinese Taipei dominate team eliminations at Winnipeg 2025

The team events at the Winnipeg 2025 World Archery Youth Championships wrapped up today, with the first medals of the event – team bronze – awarded and the stage set for Friday’s gold medal matches.

The day’s results set up some powerhouse clashes for the gold medal matches on Friday. It was perhaps no surprise to see Korea’s youth teams reach all four recurve team finals.

The Korean under-18 men’s and women’s teams will both face Chinese Taipei tomorrow, as will the Korean under-21 women’s team, while the under-21 men’s team will take on the USA.

“It’s been great to do this with my friends,” said Park Myungjae of the under-18 recurve team. “We had great matches and we managed to shoot the tens.”

Korea’s under-21 compound women will compete against Türkiye for gold, while Chinese Taipei’s under-18 compound women will face the USA. The dominance of Korea and Chinese Taipei across the finals reflects their significant investment in youth archery.

In the men’s compound events, Germany will face India in the under-21 gold medal match, while the USA takes on India in the under-18 final.

The bronze medal team matches also concluded today, with Australia, Türkiye, India, Chinese Taipei, Mexico, Ukraine and Spain all securing medals.

“We all feel like a family,” said Ximena Estrada of the Mexican under-21 compound team, who defeated Spain 223–220. “Almost too much chemistry. It’s an honour to represent our country.”

Australia’s under-21 recurve men’s bronze medal was a highlight of the day. They beat third-seeded India and pushed second-seeded USA to a shoot-off.

“We came here expecting to medal,” said Jai Crawley. “We’ve been putting in a lot of work, and I think we’ve earned it.”

Chinese Taipei won the under-18 compound men’s bronze medal without having to shoot, after Canada, the quarterfinal winners from the opposite side of the draw, were disqualified for failing to sign their scorecard.

Competition continues on Friday with individual eliminations and the team gold medal matches.
