Fullerton nails seventh 150 of World Series to claim victory in Rio

Mathias Fullerton scored a scintillating 150 in the compound men final to win his first Indoor World Series gold of the 2026 season at the Rio Indoor 250.

It was Fullerton's second perfect end of matches in Rio, having also won his first-round matchup against Marcelo Pereira also flawlessly, but Great Britain's Ajay Scott was on the end of the Dane's fine shooting at the pinnacle of action in the Parque Olímpico. Scott shot excellently as well in the final, losing only 150–149, as narrow as it can get in compound archery.

Once his fifteenth arrow was confirmed to be in the 10-ring by the target judge, it cemented the current world number one's seventh 150 in the 2026 Indoor World Series so far, having nabbed five in the GT Open last month.

“It’s been so awesome,” he said with a full smile after the match. “I was excited all week before coming here and as soon as I arrived I could feel the good energy, the good vibes here, loving the weather, the event, going to the beach.”

“It’s so nice when it’s snowing back home [in Denmark]. I felt like I struggled a little bit in the finals. Yes, I shot well but it felt hard.”

“Here on the stage it felt really nice, so the work that I’ve been doing has been working and I’m just going to keep doing that.”

As he openly suggested himself, Fullerton seems in no rush to leave the peak sunshine of Brazil amidst the high season of the southern hemisphere summer.

On the face of it, he currently looks the happiest he has been on a shooting line, looking tranquil while competing as the best compound men’s archer on the planet - former world number one Mike Schloesser was in his coaching box in the final - with self-confidence beyond belief and truly loving his craft at the moment.

All three impeccable ingredients to succeed at the highest level of archery, and against an in-form Scott who himself is in a rich vein of form.

After his first full senior season outdoors on the international circuit in 2025, the 22-year-old archer gained his career maiden international gold at the Swiss Open Lausanne 2025, but twice arrows of his had to be checked by the target judge, once in the third end where it got upgraded to a 10, and then in the final end which, unfortunately for him, the shaft was deemed not touching the spider.

It meant Rio became Fullerton's first top podium in the Indoor World Series since the 2024 Vegas Shoot, and his elite consistency at the moment—which has seen him finish second seed in Lausanne and the GT Open recently following qualifications—makes him the athlete to beat so far indoors.

He is in no rush to leave sunny Rio or his form.

“Hopefully, it’s sooner rather than later I’ll be back here in Rio again,” he said.

On the compound women side of things, Alejandra Usquiano defeated the Mexican duo and top seeds Andrea Becerra and Dafne Quintero en route to her third gold medal of 2025 - the two others were in Nimes and the Medellin 2025 South American Open Championships - whilst Brady Ellison got his indoor season off to winning ways by emerging victorious in recurve men.

All finals were broadcast live and you can watch them all back on archery+.

The next stop on the Indoor World Series is the Nimes Archery Tournament in January.
