Preview: Champion talent set to gather for European Field Championships in Poland

Euro Field 2023

The Walbrzych-Ksiaz 2025 European Field Championships take place next week in Poland, featuring a field stacked with top talent. This is the 26th edition of the event, which has a history going back to 1970.

All four title holders in recurve and barebow from the Chengdu 2025 World Games compete: Matteo Borsani and Denisa Barankova in recurve and Simone Barbieri and Alicia Baumert in barebow.

Baumert was featured as World Archery’s athlete spotlight last month after her World Games victory and returns to Poland as the defending champion in barebow following her breakthrough win in Italy two years ago.

Other returning senior continental champions from 2023 include Bryony Pitman, Giuseppe Seimandi, Julia Boehnke and Willem Bakker.

Nicolas Girard arrives in Poland as the brand-new target World Champion after his win at Gwangju 2025. Now ranked number three in the world, he will face stiff competition in compound men from world number two Mathias Fullerton – also a Gwangju podium finisher – and world number five Nico Wiener, a former target champion and multiple international field and 3D titleholder.

In contrast to most recent international events, conditions are expected to be sunny, dry and temperate.

Key information

What’s happening? The biannual European Field Archery Championships on 13-21 September 2025 in Ksiaz, Poland. (Pronounced roughly kshansh.)

What’s at stake? Continental champion titles across three bow styles – recurve, compound and barebow – in senior and under-21 age groups for team, mixed team and individual events.

Who’s competing? A total of 184 archers – 105 men and 79 women – from 25 countries. These numbers are broadly similar  to the 2023 edition held as a combined field and 3D championship in Cesana Sansicario, Italy.

What’s the story? With the 2025 World Games in Chengdu completed, the biggest event on Europe’s top field archers’ calendars will be the combined 2026 World Archery Field and 3D Championships. A strong finish here will likely secure a spot for most competitors in Yankton next year.
