Vegas 2026: Former champions Kyle Douglas, Mathias Fullerton and Bodie Turner lead the way

Targets on archery field

The Vegas Shoot got off to an exciting start, with 72 men and 18 women shooting a perfect 300 in the championship compound open categories on the opening day of qualification at the Paris and Horseshoe Grand Ballrooms in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Former champions Kyle Douglas and Mathias Fullerton, defending champion Bodie Turner, and Nicolas Girard, the Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Champion, all proved their class, each shooting a perfect score with all 30 arrows landing in the 10X-ring.

The Netherlands’ Mike Schloesser also posted a perfect 300, with 29 of his arrows hitting the X-ring.

“It was great – I had a good qualification. I was very happy because the precision was there. I did my best to maintain it until the end. I really love precision, and that’s what I focus on with every arrow. Today, it worked for four or five ends. I honestly don’t know how many arrows we shot — I just stayed in the same mindset throughout,” said Girard, who went on to claim the $10,000 shootoff contested by all eligible Championship 300 shooters.

USA's 20-year-old Morgan Rives, a regular on the indoor circuit, led the women’s compound field among the clean shooters, landing 27 of her 30 arrows in the 10X-ring.

Three-time European champion and reigning series winner Tanja Gellenthien of Denmark shot 25 arrows into the 10X-ring, two more than India’s world number two Jyothi Surekha Vennam as they all finished in the 300-point bracket.

Great Britain’s Ella Gibson, who has already secured one gold and two bronze medals in the 2026 series, also featured among the top contenders with 21 arrows in the 10X-ring. World number one
Andrea Becerra, the reigning world champion at Gwangju 2025, was tied for 19th place with a score of 299.

In the recurve men's field, USA’s Brady Ellison and France’s Thomas Chirault, finalists at last year’s Vegas Shoot, jointly led the field with scores of 296.

Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida and USA’s Nicholas D’Amour followed closely with 295, while Mexico’s Mathias Grande, the Mérida Indoor World Series 500 champion, sat in seventh place on 293.

In the women’s recurve competition, Nîmes and Taipei champion Victoria Sebastian led the standings with 296, despite landing seven arrows in the X-ring. USA’s Catalina Gnoriega and reigning circuit champion Casey Kaufhold were tied for second place on 294.

Mexico’s teenage talent Angela Ruiz, who claimed her first Indoor Archery World Series title in Mérida last month, was in fifth place with 293.

The three-day competition at the Vegas Shoot serves as the seventh and final stage of the Indoor Archery World Series, with each archer shooting 90 arrows from Friday to Sunday.
