Spain names squads for opening stages of 2026 season
Spain has announced its national teams following the conclusion of its selection events for recurve and compound ahead of the opening competitions of the 2026 season.
The recurve men’s squad for the first stages of the Hyundai Archery World Cup features reigning world champion Andres Temiño Mediel, alongside Pablo Acha, Diego Conde Collar and Javier Mérida González, while the women’s team includes Elia Canales, Paula Álvarez González, Carlota Navas and Lucia Ibáñez Romero.
In compound, Alvaro Pardo Gutierrez and Ramon Lopez are selected in the men’s team, with Andrea Muñoz and Alexa Misis Olivares in the women’s lineup.
These athletes are set to compete at the opening three stages of the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit in Puebla, Shanghai and Antalya.
A separate group has been selected for early-season European events, including Spring Arrows in Antalya and Veronica’s Cup in Kamnik, while Spain will also send a team to the European Para Archery Championships in Rome, featuring compound archer Fernando Galé Montorio and W1 athlete Isabel Fernandez Jimenez.
The selections follow a series of national trials, with additional qualification events scheduled in the coming months to finalise teams for the European Championships in Antalya, the Madrid World Cup stage and other major competitions later in the season.
The announcement also follows a successful 2025 campaign for Spain, with Temiño a double gold medallist – in individual and mixed team with Canales – at the Hyundai World Archery Championships in Gwangju, and shortlisted for the World Archery athlete of the year title, which was won by Turkish archer Emircan Haney.
