Korean Men under pressure in 1st Asian Grand Prix

Bangkok - 13-17 February 2006

 

The Event was opened on the 8th February by a shot from the Deputy Prime Minister in the presence of the FITA President, Dr Ugur Erdener (opening speech 13 February) and Mr Sanguan Kosavinta, FITA Vice President and the host of the event.

 

The 1st Asian Grand Prix in Thailand finished with the Japanese Men, led by Hiroshi Yamamoto, beating the Korean Team by one point. This followed the surprise victory by the Indian Junior Jayant Talukdar against Kim Sung Nam from Korea in the individual’s men recurve event. Third in the recurve men’s event was Hiroshi Yamamoto who set a new Japanese record in the Qualifying Event at 70m with 679 points.

 

The women’s event was dominated by the Korean women who did 1-2-3 in the Individual’s Event and won easily the team event. The only upset in the women’s recurve competition was the 2nd round loss by the 4th Korean, Jung Hyun Ok, who was beaten by Swiss Nathalie Dielen. Asano of Japan finished 4th.

 

The Host nation Thailand was very pleased with Tinbua Narisara who won the final of the Women’s Compound Individual Event defeating Jhanu Hansda by 3 points.

 

The men’s Compound Event saw a very strong Indian team take the gold in front of the Iranian Team.

 

In total there were 156 participating archers from 20 countries.
