The wind is still the one that decides
Athens - 15 September 2006
The Men Recurve, Men Compound and Women Recurve have one thing in common today. All their top ranked archers failed to make it to the semi-finals.
Michele Frangilli was the first one out and can only hope now for a bronze medal in the team round. He finishes 54th, a place unseen for Michele. The final will be between Magnus Petterson from Sweden who will face Michael Frankenberg from Germany tomorrow for the gold, and the bronze will be for either Piotr Piatek from Poland or Daniel Morillo from Spain. The highest score of the day was 109 by Ilario di Buo another favourite that fell in the 2nd round and finishes 17th.
The Women Compound is the only category where the first seeded is going to shoot for gold. Camilla Soemod from Denmark is going to face Anne Laurilla from Finland. Bronze will be for either Amandine Bouillot or Irina Markovic from the Netherlands.
The Women’s Recurve gold is between Almudena Gallardo from Spain and Borodai Tatiana from Russia. Italy is assured to have one bronze medal since the two teammates Elena Tonetta and Lionneti Pia Carmen will shoot for Bronze.
The Men’s compound final is a French affair with Stephane Dardenne shooting against Sebastien Brasseur. The Bronze will be disputed by Rajko Usaj from Slovenia who shot amazingly well and Jose Duo from Spain who made it even more of a Spanish Fiesta in Athens.
